Joy is Futureproof, Experience Joy, Futureproof your BMW etc, etc.

I understood the first advert in that a new BMW may give you "joy" of some kind but all this futureproof stuff dosen't cut it imo.

The engine tech may be decent but the current 1,3 and 6 series are about as far away from futureproof as you can get as they're both being replaced soon.

I just don't think a car maker should market "futureproof"....dosen't say much for future BMW advances does it? Sack the ad agency BMW.

BMW are making crap adverts at the moment.

"Joy is efficient" No it fking isn't, nothing fun has ever been efficient. Things that are fun are by there very definition not efficient.

"BMW's create there own energy" No the fking don't, you can't create energy and BMW's can't defy the laws of physics and thermodynamics.

Truly crap lying and advertising.

Alright mate steady on....i think you are taking the ED stuff a bit too literally.
The cars are using brake regeneration to charge the battery on the over run and
the front vents close when the engine is cold then the flap opens them again later,
intelligent alternators not belt driven....low friction tyres and the net result is
a CO2 reading far far lower than any direct competitor....its not all bks.
However I agree the adverts are bks at the moment.
The FutureProof Challenge has not caught on and gone over the staffs heads never
mind the bloody customers....

It may do. But then it will break down and the novelty will fade

Well if the electronics in my 1 series are anything to go by then their definition of future proof must be the length of the warranty period....

For a few years now BMW and I have been drifting apart from each other, for a number of reasons.

The new campaign just confirms that I wouldn't buy one of their current cars and that BMW isn't marketing to me anyway. Which is fair enough.

could have sworn the futureproof stuff was to do with one of there lese deals the one that a set buyback price is written in the contract.
therfore "futureproofing" your investment......... just incase were all flying round on jetpacks by the end of the contract and a car wouldent be worth anything. you would still get a buyback

I do think they should return to the Ultimate Driving Machine... it works for all the things they are trying to get across with out being so overfamiliar and patronising...

Realistically, does anyone care? Just go and test the products out for yourself, if you like them, great!

But you can't assess reliability on a test drive

You can't do that from marketing materials either.

Interesting comments. Visually the ads are interesting, show the products in a rather attractive dynamic environment and as an object of desire work rather well. It's interesting what the words do in this context - link 'makes its own energy' to a future attractive design and the brain almost thinks its believable ...

Not factually true, but clever marketing done by those who have a pretty damned good idea how we make mental associations.

In my sample size of one, I can only conclude that they suck. I am spoilt by proper engineering with my Honda, and expect all cars to be as good.

My BMW is good for reliability (touching lots of wood biggrin )

Maybe they are going a bit far with complex sub-systems though.

Pistons should always move up and down, and spin alternators and pumps etc.

When they start making all these little things dependent on other little things then I can see things easily going wrong later. More things to go wrong = things going wrong more often!?

Hmmmmm
