Good evening, I'm somewhat of a newbie on here so go easy on me. I'm after a little bit of help and I thought so I thought I'd tap into the wealth of information and experience found in The Lounge so here goes:

I'm planning a stag do in Nottingham in a couple of weeks time for a small group (less than 10) and I'm after recommendations.
I don't want to come across as lazy as I'm doing my own research but I thought some of you might live in or around the area (or know it) and might be able to help. Very roughly here's how I see things going:

-Arrive Friday early evening
-Few beers whilst we all meet up
-Pub / chilled out bar to catch up over drinks
-On to a comedy night - was considering the dog track instead but wasn't that impressed when I went to the one in Wakefield
-Curry
-Some more drinks / poss casino

Sat
-Daytime activities will have been sorted
-The evening I'd like to tour a couple of nice bars (don't mean to sound snobby hopefully you know what I mean)
-End up in a booby bar hopefully stiching the stag up

Not exactly an original plan but its what the stag wants which is the main purpose of the exersise so if anyone has suggestions for "must do's" and / or "must not do's" I'd love to hear them.

I know there are few posts on here about Nottingham (some of which put me off a bit although I had a night out there a while ago and it seemed ok)and I've also posted something up in the regional forum but I'm also interested in the thoughts of The Lounge.

Thanks

Stu

Have you had some bad experiences there? I've been before, and the Missus went to a hen party there, both a while ago but we didn't have any problems howeverI did read a thread on here about Nottingham that wasn't exactly complimentary. To be honest its a stag do its not like I'm taking the other half away for a romantic weekend so I reckon we'll be ok!

For the curry try 4550 miles from dehli, it has a very good reputation. For drinks try hogshead (opposite French connection, near the Market square) also pitcher and piano, both of these are quite start of night style places. Then something along the lines of tonic.
There is a jonglers comedy club
in notts also another one which I can't remember the name of (might be the old vic).
Nottingham is as safe a city as any, almost all of the problems occur in the surrounding areas. The only problem is that these areas are quite close to the city. If you stay in the city especially the lace Market area there will be absolutely no problems that you couldn't expect anywhere.

Hope some of this helps

One more point I've just thought of, you must to the old salutation and the trip to jerusulem pubs. The last one is reported to be the oldest inn in England. Both are near to the castle with the trip being built into the castle Walls. They have a room
at the very top which is normally closed but if you give advance notice they will probably open it up for you as a private room

Watch out when walking up the steep arcades.

I was part of a crowd of people walking through one once when a couple of sniggering lads ahead of us turned round and shouted "it's the riverdance". They then peed down hill and we did indeed look like Flatley and his troupe.

Nottingham is a fab night out, don't believe the media hype. Best place for a few beers is the Cock and Hoop in the Lacemarket. Then Memsaab for the best Indian food around. If you want cocktails then go to Brass Munkey again in Lacemarket, or few beers in the Pitcher and Piano - in a converted church.

Then head to one of the many clubs - Sugar bar, Oceania, Faces..

ETA Hooters is in town also

No worse than any other city.

Cucamaras is a good quick stop off for some shots.

Pitcher and Piano is smart but pricey, it's in a pretty cool building too.

BARS

As has been said above, The Trip To Jerusalem is a must. Good selection of beers too. Walk down to Market Square to The Bell on Market Square. This is excellent. Then walk up South Parade and Poultry to the Pit and Pendulum opposite French Connection. That is an interesting pub, Gothic theme and Gothic decor. Tantra is just up from there but it is a meat market. They have beds in there too so it may be worth a peak. Stroll up Carlton Street towards Hockley then take a right onto Broadway and you'll find yourself in The Lace Market district. The Lace Market is great for bars and is a bit more upmarket than some of the bars off Market Square. Bluu is on the corner of Broadway and Stoney Street and is one of my favourite bars. It is busy but spacious so you don't end up with your drink down you. Great bar and music too. The Pitcher and Piano is just around the corner on High Pavement. Opposite is The Living Room which is a lovely venue. It is great in the afternoon but tends to get a bit cramped at night. The Brass Monkey is next door. I went in there tipsy and came out sober wink so I don't go there anymore. The Cock and Hoop is on this street too. It is one of the loveliest venues in the city but not really a place for a stag group. More for couples (great food).

CLUBS

I haven't been clubbing for a long time in Nottingham. Avoid Ocean like the plague as it is rough and the clientele leave a lot to be desired. The Lizard Lounge on St.Mary's Gate, just around the corner from Bluu, used to be a good venue but a little small. It is very upmarket and drinks are pricey. Gatecrasher on Queen Street used to be excellent. Very young, vibrant crowd and a very friendly atmosphere. It is a huge venue so I imagine that there is something for everyone. If you do a Google search you can read reviews for each of these clubs and others in Nottingham. Incidentally, NG1 is a gay club.

You mentioned boobies on your Midlands thread. The only strip joint I knew of was closed. There is Hooters near the railways station, on Queen's Road.

There is always a large police presence in the city centre on weekend nights so this has helped to keep a lid on fights. As has been said before, you'll get a nose for a rough pub. All bars and pubs have door staff. The roughest parts are in the surrounding inner-city districts.

yes Was up in Nottingham last weekend - gave 4550 a go based on it's good rep, and both me and the missus thought it was one of the best currys we've ever had... Had the 'right' atmosphere on a Saturday night for a big group too (i.e. not too quiet and 'coupley'!)

Agree totally on The Trip (one of my fave pubs in the country!) and The Pitcher and Piano too... And a trip to Hooters goes without saying! smile

I'd start in Hooters on Trent Bridge. Work my way up to the Lace Market etc. If you need food either the 4550 miles to dehli or Hooters BBQ wings hehe

Work your way around the bars in Lace market, As said before Pitcher and Piano etc.

Then maybe Saltwater, sometimes a few minor celebs in there, Carl Froch and Forest players...

Then onto a club/later bar? What sort of music are you into? Might help with the ideas.

Then a titty bar near Slab square. Then Roll into the casino to waste what little money you have left hehe

Don't believe everyones hype about Shottingham being bad, It's no worse than other cities, Leeds, Manchester etc. I go most weekends in groups of various sizes, or just me and the OH and nothing has ever happened. Seen a few stabbings but thats besides the point...

Yeah that's a nice curry house. I've only been there once but it was very good.

Down near the canal might be a good place to start. A few good bars there.

The new comedy club is now on Thurland Street. Jongleurs is no longer near the canal. Cock and Hoop has excellent beer for an early start. trip to Jerusalem would also be a good place early on.

nottingham has a wealth of different bars for different people. It all depends on what you're looking for. Laguna does great curry.

This baffled me last weekend when I was shopping and saw that it had moved. Was quite a good job I saw it really as was thinking about going again soon.

And yeah the canal/Waterfront is very good atmosphere when sunny. 4/5 bars all with outside seatings etc. It is where I plan to spend most of saturday afternoon after the football beer
