Renault Independent garage in Surrey for cam belt service

Hi,

I picked up a Clio 172 yesterday but it needs the cam belt service asap as it doesn't seem to have been done at all yet in the car's history (it's only covered 38,000 miles though).

Does anyone know of an independent Renault garage (ideally near Weybridge) in Surrey that can do this? Renault have quoted £930 for it and this price is the same across all main dealer garages. I understand it's not a simple job that any garage can do so if anyone can recommend a garage that can do a good job and take a good chunk off the Renault price I'd really appreciate it.

That's odd,My Renault Main Dealer in Harrogate is Doing a Cambelt and Service on my V6 Sport for not much more..?? And I think the Engine has to be droped..??:

Have you actually rung round other main dealers? I'm sure I was quoted much less than that in the past (was cheaper still to go to an indy of course). You are right that is an awkward job. Think the front bumper has to be removed for access due to lack of space in engine bay.

Try asking in the French Bred forum, you may get a better response.

For reference the cambelt should be changed every 72k or 5yrs whichever comes first. Aux belt every 36k.

I've tried Weybridge, Epsom and Croydon (where it was last serviced). All priced around £930 just for the belt service.

I was told by the used car dealer "it's a £200 job" . I guessed it would be around £500 but £930 is a bit steep, they do seem to be open to negotiation so I might try that if there are no local indies.

It has full renault history but the previous owner seems to have overlooked the belt service, I think it's been sat around not doing much for the last few years.

Just found that K-Tec racing in Dorset do it for £399. It's a bit of a trek for me but it's worth it for £500! Going to book it in with them.

Let me know all the prices you get please, my one needs to be replaced too at some stage soon. The first one was changed at 100K, now it's approaching 159K so wil need doing sometime soon.

Just spoken to them, going to call back with a quote. The chap was very clued up about the 172 so this could be the ideal solution.

You may have just saved me a return trip up and down the M3, cheers

Errr, this has gotten me a bit a bit worried, looks as if I'm keeping my car, meaning I'll need to get my cambelt and water pump done soon, (December 2002/58,760mi), I know my cars not a performance machine like the 172 but is my Megane 1.4 (K4J) likely to cost as much?! - Already needs some work done after its MOT Needs new front discs and my rears are pitted (what does this mean?) and corroded and some new steering track rod arms... Sounds like this is going to get expensive...

I'm new to Renault but my understanding is that the Renaultsport Clio cambelt change is expensive due to the lack of space around the engine, things need to be removed etc to get at it. I'd guess other cars wouldn't need nearly as much effort to replace the belt.

Just a follow up on this for anyone who's interested. They quoted slightly higher than Renault (although it included the water pump) so it looks like it's a trip down the M3!

My Renault Dealer is still waiting for a Cambelt for the V6.?Even Renault UK don't have one.?Having to wait for one to arrive from France.?Well over a week now.?

Argh! - Sorry to sort of hi-jack your thread a little, but I've already decided that no matter how much I like it, I'm never buying a Renault again, sod their advert, I did and I won't make the same mistake again! - That basically sums up my thoughts on Renault at the moment...
