My Griff 500 is 3.5 years old now. Owned it from new(Never bent it, 10,ooo miles on the clock)

But I can see a line under the paint over one front wheel arch, looks where the moulds joined.

And around the bonnet you can see cross hatching under the paint, (i.e looks like fibre)
It looks fine from a few feet, and can only see it from some angles, but I think it might get worse over time. (wasn't there last year)

Has anyone else seen had this happen?

If not what would the likely hood of some goodwill from the factory (via delaer) to sort it out (manufacturing defect, I presume)

Any thoughts

I think that with GRP, "they all do that" A friend who was in the boat building trade explained it all to me once, as the same thing applies there, with the texture of the glass matt appearing through the gel coat on a sailing dinghy I had at the time, and that was built using epoxy resins and woven matt, which is a lot more high tech than the polyester resin/chopped strand matt in a TVR. My '92 Griff shows it up sometimes... it seems to depend on the weather! I have seen several other cars with the same phoenomenon too, including a 98 griff at a dealers a couple of weeks ago. I think that essentially, the resin & paint is never truely hard, and settles into the texture of the underlying matt overtime. I have seen really old un-cared for sailing dinghies where the resin has gone completely in places, leaving glass fibres on the surface, if left exposed to the elements long enough.

Hope this does not depress you too much!

I have a similar problem over one rear wheel arch and (as my car is 2nd hand) I'm pleased to hear it happens to cars that haven't been repaired. I doubt you'll get it sorted FOC as the queue could end up being very long.

A goodnews story. I've now got my Griff back after fixing the problems (they did say that the problem was exceptional) and a full front end(and bonnet)respray, with TVR contributing.

It now looks brand new.

It took a couple of goes to get it right, the dealer sent it back to the bodyshop as there was a problem with the paint (I think they got ICL involved)

Thank You Hawthorns

So a very good result, that I was not expecting (sorted on it's 4th birthday)

Congrats BJ - but how did you manage to get a dealer/TVR interested after 3.5 years?

A good relationship with the dealer, they actually suggested giving it a try with TVR. Bought it new and FSH at the dealer.
