Griffith 500 v Chimaera 500

Torn between the two!
Been reading Steve Heath's book, says they share the same chassis brakes and engine, are they much different to drive, own?
Could bring more booze back from France in a Chimaera!

Fewer Griffith 500s than Chimaera 500s as far as I'm aware. The Griffith also seems to keeps its value far better than the Chimaera guess that's to do with production numbers, adn purity of the model.

As far as I can remember it was only the late cars that share exactly the same components, the earlier varieties had subtle differences IIRC. I'm sure someone will expand/correct me.

I know this may sound like a bit of a lame reason for not having a Griff but the size of the boot was mine. Boot on Griff is fine with the roof on but with the roof off there is not much of a boot left. If you like the roof off it is something to consider if you are going away for a few days.

At the risk of a hair dresser accusation, the boot was a factor for me too when choosing between the two...I just couldn't face the prospect of leaving the car at home because we couldn't fit a couple of bags in the boot.

I dunno what you're worried about. I took mine to Le Mans with the roof in't boot, Cap'n Birdseye as a passenger, his/my kit, tents, beer, sleeping bags, beer, towels, beer and a portable cooler/fridge!

Joolz and I spent a fortnight touring france last year in the Griff. Tent, chairs, beds, electric coolbox, clothes, gas stove, toolkit, oil, coolant etc etc etc

No problem, you just have to be organised. We worked out where everything fitted and could get the roof off/on in less than 5 mins. And brought back 2 crates of champagne.

The real answer to your question is that no-one can tell you what to buy. If you buy what someone else thinks you should have, you'll get the wrong car. Go to car club meets, look at them, get passenger rides, and get to the dealers and get test driving.

Also, simply ask yourself which you prefer. Don't be afraid of choosing, say, a Chimaera 500 just because you prefer the styling.

I thought there were fewer Chim 500s then Griff 500s. Don't worry about whatever you choose, neither will disappoint.

Did you have the roof off then at all, I mean whilst travelling, not with the tent up?
