Should I remove a spider box for remap
Discussion
Hello Im hoping for some advice please.
I have a 59 plate 320d touring which I've fitted a new spider tuning box too.
I have tried adjusting the jumpers but I just seem to get a big slug of power at about 3k revs and not much under that.
Either Im doing something wrong or this is just how it is.
So I have been considering a remap as many of the graphs show the torue nearing the peak at just over 2k revs. This should make the car drivable.
The reason I opted for the box was the ease of removal and if the dealer updates the ecu I dont have to mess about remapping again.
Though I have found a firm near me called Evolution chips that seem to know their stuff (from what little i know).
Can anyone tell me if a remap would help or even be better through experience than the spider box. Or if the box can be adjusted to make the power come in sooner.
Cheers

OK cheers.
The bloke ive just spoken to today is a superchips dealer but he said he would write a program (if thats the right term) and then tweak it after a roadtest if needed. Does this sound right.
Also is there anything I should ask for. My main reason for being disapointed with the tuning box was the lack of low down power.
If I ask for a remap with lowdown power with the top end suffer. Also
Sorry if this is a daft question but never had a choice before.

Oh just recieved a phone call from the bloke that has looked at the setting of my car. I has anti remap software on it so it can not be done. He recons he is getting some extra kit soon where he will be able to do it but sounds like a non starter for the moment.
Just have to keep playing with the box for the time being.

As I understand it, a remap can't enhance one part of the power band to the detriment of another. It's fitting parts which do this. (e.g. a small fast spooling turbo would give faster spool but a weaker top end when compared to a big turbo. Similar differences exist when changing cams, which will usually favour low or high rpm response.)
The most knowledgeable tuner I've come across on any of the forums has been Simon from emaps http://www.e-maps.co.uk/
If there's any of these folk who will give you a general view on remapping it's him. He won't try and talk you into something you don't need and will give an honest appraisal of what you're after.
There's much BS spouted on many forums about custom maps, they're definitely the best option but the sheer cost involved of doing it properly is not for your average motorist who just wants some more oomph - dynos etc aren't cheap and that's the only real way of checking the customisation is actually providing more power and in such a way that the fueling, emissions etc are correct.
