Where can I buy beef burgers that stay big enough to fit in a burger bun once cooked? I'm fed up of cooking a quarter pounder and watching it shrink to the size of a £2 coin. Perhaps it's to do with my method - I usually shallow fry them.

I'm not interested in making my own burgers.

Why on god's green earth are you not interested in making your own burgers?

It's a truly joyous thing, that once you have mastered, you can then move on to making your own buns.

Hey presto a completely bespoke burger, just the way you like it.

Coupled with the fact that it's actually one of the simplest things this side of toasting bread, and with an infinite number of permutations.

Home made all the way.

I can see the benefits of it but I'd rather just go out and buy some. I'm too lazy to be messing around with mince and stuff

A butcher perhaps?

You could take him a sample bun so that he can take measurements to ensure that the shrinkage doesn't disappoint you.

Here's my bog standard recipe:

Pack of fatty mince (lean mince is bullst)
1 egg
a big pinch of salt
a big grind of pepper
a good shake of barbecue seasoning powder stuff

Mix

Form

Fry/bbq/grill.

Piece of cake.

So then you're going to have accept an overhang compromise...

Remember commercially produced burgers are for the majority fitment of a woefully small bun.

That ought to be the leading manifesto quote for my newly formed PH Epicurean Political Party. I sense a landslide.

I suppose that's not actually too difficult. Maybe 10mins of work? Mince doesn't come in portions for one person though. It's such a pain in the arse trying to cook for one. Everything comes in 2's or larger portions.

Might try the butcher. I live in a small village and it's a traditional "local butcher" kind of place. I bought some chicken from there once and it was delicious

Buy mince, remove handful for burger, freeze remainder.

Cooking for 120 is hard, cooking for 1 merely requires a freezer.

Isnt it obvious, the crappy cheap burgers are full of 'nothing' so will shrink away.

Get yourself down the butchers.....meet galore!

If only it were that easy. I always cook for one but there's 2 people in my house and one tiny freezer.

Actually, to do the above wont take any more than a couple of mins. 10 mins and it's cooked and on the plate.

With regards to left over mix, shape it into another patty and freeze it for next time.

Butcher is good as you can ask them to sell you 250g of mince which is enough (plenty) for one. Even the butcher at the supermarket will sell you mince in varying quantities if you can't be arsed to shop local.
