HTC Hero or Iphone 3g 8GB
Discussion
Hi ive been looking at changing my phone. I have found a few good deals like vodafone £25 a month and i have found the HTC hero on three for £20 a month. Just wondering which is best, some people say the Hero is much better and the iphone is dated. also will the OS 4 be compatable with the 8GB 3G? thanks Tom
Firstly I wouldn't bother with the 3 network but thats my personal opinion. I don't know of anyone that has been happy with the coverage.
The new iPhone is out soon (pictures are already on the internet after (some might say accidently on purpose) left one in a bar)).
Have you had a look at the HTC Desire?

HTC build cool phones but the software setup can be less good, the iPhone is superb for integration of the components but battery life is poor.
I have an Hero, battery life is less than 24hours, I can be up at 9am, and by 11pm its asking me to connect my charger, I always turn WIFI and GPS off, In fact i rarely use them, I just text alot and occasionally have phone calls. You can get the HTC Desire(latest phone and better than the Hero) for £25/month and free phone at some places.
As for battery life on the Hero, mine easily lasts a day. That's with Wifi on constantly, facebook updates, 2 email addresses updating every 15 mins. So battery life is not an issue here. I do run an auto-kill taskmanager which could explain why some people are struggling to get their phone through a day and i'm not.
ETA, I know someone who has just swapped his iPhone for a Hero, and prefers the Android OS.

HTC Hero is old tech now - its been replaced by the HTC Legend, but the Desire is better specced.
Guy at work gets 2 days out of his Hero and I get 2 days out of my Desire - Wifi is usually on all day, but all others are turned off unless needed, and as mentioned I regularly kill unwanted tasks.
I like the iPhone, but it doesn't do anything that the Desire can't, and it works out nearly £400 cheaper over the 18month contract. Thats alot of cash an inferior spec phone, even if there are better apps out there.
people forget that the iPhone is actually quite old, for a phone, nowadays. It's quite incredible that it has retained it;s presence this much. Look at how long other 'tech' phones remain in the limelight, and the the bar that others aim for. I do think the next iPhone will be quite a step above, I would imagine.
