Anyone else experienced this? I just started browsing Auto Trader, and it appears to have replaced my post code with one 30 miles away. Notably BD23 2QR. Google Earth makes this an industrial estate. I have emailed Auto Trader expressing concern that my account has been breached, but I'm not hopeful. It is Auto Trader after all...

Have you clicked an Autotrader link posted by someone else on here recently? whistle

I think the AT site stores a cookie on your PC, containing a postcode.

It can be pretty dangerous actually, depending on your tin-foil hat stance.

If you search for a car near to your home by entering your postcode, then post the link up here, everyone can see where you live (pretty much).

Two different issues, surely? Copying and pasting - well, you can stick in a different postcode (I do!).

i live in a residential street with a block of flats opposite. so on my street possible 50 different numbers. 'They' could tell what street i live in, but i dont particularly care!?

Unless you had a Ferrari F40 stored in garage that you were worried about i cant see a huge issue?

Well, I seem to recall you saying that pirates are better than ninjas so I know where you live and need to re-educate you. wink

no need- just use the first few bits of the url to the ad which contains the site name and ad id
e.g. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2010...

The rest is just filters and can be ommitted.

Are using any popup blocking addins for your browser?

I just started browsing Auto Trader
Did you find any cars for sale in amongst all those fking annoying adverts for crap you don't want ?

Autotrader - either charge more to place an Ad, or sell advertising space, NOT BOTH frown
confused Disagree- It could be improved sure but compared to the competition its better.

If you use the filters and search box for key terms, sort by newest if viewing regularly then all is fine. Compare to PH's classifieds for example where no keyword search in anything but the title and far less filter options? Plus the private ads being 30 pages down etc.

I disagree. This is a far better site than Autotrader - http://www.makeandmodel.co.uk

I find that using Firefox and AdBlock Plus helps an awful lot. Sadly it can't eliminate the "we buy your Audi S4 for £75" type ads and totally inappropriate database polluting ads though.
