There's a guy I often see on the way to work with a distinctive cherished plate who has just changed his car from an MX-7 to a Merc. SLK

Anyway, the front plate on the new car has a discernable pink hue to it. Is this just the latest affectation or is it some new form of anti-speed trap defence? (I've never seen his rear plate clearly 'cos he's always going the other way)

I have seen a Smart car round Stratford-on Avon with a pinkish front plate too. I have always assumed that he was trying to colour coordinate it with his red car. I would not have thought it was the obvious sort of car to be going about equipped with anti camera devices!

When the acrylic sheet from which plates are made comes in blank form there is a protective film over the surface. This can be all sorts of colours, depending upon the source of the acrylic. Perhaps this film has just never been removed.

That's another one
It should be homosexualphobic. Homo on its own just means "the same".

Homophobic is one of those words used by the liberal elite to defend their position which is really undefendable. Other such words and phrases are

Biggoted
Imoral
offending my sensibilities
Using sensationalist arguments to drive home your view

The reality is that none of us are offended by people who act in a civilised way regardless of their sexuality. What is offensive is having someones sexuality publicised in your face. Thats why we don't like Peter Mendleson, because he is gay first and a human being second. Unlike Elton John who is of the opposite nature.

On the number plate thing - is it now impossible/illegal to get plates made up with the old wider style letters,as opposed to the new narrow ones?

Reason I ask is that I hate plates with "supplied by blah blah motors" on them but on older cars I think the new plates look wrong (basically I think they look French). Micro rant - I once picked up a car from a specialist after some work to find that part of their repairs had been to replace my number plates with their own brand plates, complete with their name, number and URL writ large. Made them take 'em off right there and then and put mine back.

Can we get back on topic, be constructive, be genuinely humourous or shut up? (delete as applicable).
