My wife just checked her policy - I recommend you check yours.

Hers has a statement to the effect that neither cancellation, nor costs incurred as a result of volcanic ash and the cancellation of flights is covered by her "all encompassing" annual travel insurance.

Pathetic.

Flanders.

Must be me then, but being stuck somewhere without a means to get back is exactly what I would be turning to my insurance company to a) fund, and b) help with arrangements.

Act of God is the usual catch all get out, it would certainly cover volcano eruptions. Pretty standard clause tbh.

now this REALLY boils my piss.

I don't believe in God, so nothing is an act of God.

If I DID believe in God, then everything is an act of God surely?

call it an act of nature then. does that make it easier to swallow?

Nope!

So that means, no cover for storms, tsunami, roof blowing off hotel, weather related accidents????

dunno to be honest, must be plenty of people who go to florida and the caribbean every year and are impacted by 'acts of god'. a few of which will be on PH i'd imagine.

Usually. You should check your other insurance policies too, as you're probably not covered for all sorts of things.

Some insurance policies do cover acts of god, they just tend to not be the cheapest.

My understanding of 'Act of god' it must be so unpredictable that it could not be forecast. ie. A hurricane in hurricane season is not an act of god.

I think it could be argued (well if the insurance company are not playing the game) that a Volcano erupting to a degree is forecast-able - and the ash that followed certainly was.

The only Acts of God I can think off would say a meteorite hitting a house, or Gordon Brown telling the truth.

It must all be in the small print. But I doubt if many would have factored in ' volcanic eruption cover' when insuring 2 weeks in Europe!. Insurance should cover the unexpected..
