Stick on front number plates - FREE!
Discussion
Hi All,
I've decided to do a vinyl wrap on my old MX5, and have ordered some reflective white to do a stick on front number plate. I obviously only need one plate, but the vinyl only comes by the roll, so I had to buy quite a lot more than I needed!
Given we're out on the water sailing quite a lot, I'm happy to make up a front plate for you with some of the excess vinyl, and post to you, free of charge, in return for a voluntary donation to the RNLI. We've never needed them yet, but they do a fantastic job, often under very difficult circumstances.
I can't promise to get them done too quickly, (it's a weekend thing for when the printer's not being used), but if you pm me what you would like on a number plate (including anything you want in small letters at the bottom too), along with your name/address, I will get a plate printed off and in the post for you free of charge. I'll use the standard UK number plate font (called 'New Charles Wright'), so they're road legal. I can do them with or without a border, and with or without EU stars / GB on the left hand side.
I had a quick look around, and the cost is normally about £8-£10 per plate, so feel free to donate (or not if you don't want to) accordingly.
Basically, it will look like this image from the MX5 owners club;

I also have a load of coloured vinyl that I need to get shifted, orange, blue, green, silver, red, etc. If you want any decals or stickers or anything similar, just let me know. Coloured vinyl can also be printed, but it doesn't come out quite so well unless it's black.
Donations can be made online;

No obligation though.
For the legalities of stick on plates (which I'm sure some kindly soul will bring up eventually), this chap seems to know what he's talking about;

And more people on the MX-5 owners club;

Cheers!

I have a white mk1 what do people think to a black circle on each door?
Interesting, as I've always been tempted by a big white cirle on the top right of my bonnet, and top left of my boot...http://www.clubroadster.net/vb_forum/showthread.ph...
No black on whites there though.
Anyhows. - Nic you'll have a PM in a few seconds.

I don't suppose you'd do them in motorbike / import size for those of us who want 'show plates'

I'd happily pay for one.

Can do any size you like, it's precision cut vinyl. Can do a 12" square plate with pink and yellow spots if that's what you want!
pm me exact sizes (google for 'approved' plate sizes), I'll add to the list....

Years ago, I remember insurance companies being fussy about having circles with numbers, as they classed it as a 'racing' car. Not sure this will still apply now though? I'm going back a few years here!
I do actually have a roll of magnetic too, but it's a bugger to precision cut as it's too thick to run through the printer. It's good for rectangular decals (for taxis, driving instructors etc.), you basically cut the magnetic to fit, and put the signwriting on top as per a normal sign. Hard to cut in to a circle though unless you have the tools (I don't!).

I don't think i'll bother with a number as i've heard the same about numbers in circles not being legal on road cars?? not sure about that unless anyone can confirm either way?
I've dropped you a PM with my reg on i'll drop you another once i've decided how big the circles need to be.

AFAIK if you are showing a number on your car on the road, it has to have a diagonal line through it, otherwise you are asking to be stopped. OK, here's some early examples of my design....
A small plate for somebody that asked, no logo or bottom text, with border;

A normal sized plate with border, bottom text no logo;

A normal sized plate with border, bottom text and EU logo;

What I really need from you is;
1) Plate number to print
2) Border yes/no
3) Bottom text yes/no and content
4) EU logo yes/no
5) Your name and address
I'm doing all the designs now, so that I can get printing at the weekend, inshallah.
As for vinyl designs, it's simplerer than you might think. Vinyl comes in lots of colours, it's shiny on one side, very sticky on the other. You use a vinyl cutter to make the shapes in vinyl, you remove the unwanted vinyl from the sheet, and are left with a cut-out of the shape you want.
Our cutter is also a printer too, so you can print on to the vinyl, and cut out the shape all in one go. Things like racing circles, towing arrows, etc. are all dead easy. If it's one single colour, it's better to use a coloured vinyl. If it's any kind of decal / sponsor, etc. it's normally best to use white vinyl, print the design, and cut the shape required.
I have a stack of coloured vinyl to use up, gold, yellow, green, purple, red, and more, in varying quantities. Happy to knock up simple designs for you, no problem.
If you have something more complex, I can print/cut directly from CorelDraw, so a CDR file is good (with a CutContour line if possible!).
Lots of these to do now!

Hi All,
Plates all printed, done, and went in the post first class just now.
Should arrive to you guys from Saturday onwards.
The chap who wanted black circles for his doors - I had plenty of black vinyl left, so no problem, they're in the post with the plate.
The chap who wanted red towing arrows - No problem there either, all done. I actually used the offcut from the black circles above to do you some 'TOW' decals too, in 5 or 6 different sizes, so there's a bit for you to play with!
I've got a fair bit on vinyl left, so if there's any more for any more, fire away!
Just realised I haven't done my own plate yet though....
