New Dash Design
Discussion
I'm going to make a New Dash unit, what do people want ?? Removable for access to wiring etc Noted any other features ?? A few cars have nice molded in Dash vents in the Middle that I like, and will be doing. The main consul wrapped around the drive around the driver side more is what I'm leaning to....
Any Ideas.....
Any Ideas.....
Hi Clive,
my inspiration was the method used for the older bmw's very driver orientated.
Everything pointing toward the driver. Ive had my dash mounted, so that i can place it behind the steering wheel, but so that it is un obstructed by the wheel.
No way will anyone have the right idea but a group effort should get it close o perfect then it will be minor changes.
If your work on the body is anything to go off, yours will be perfect.
Just my opinion.

Hi GTRCLIVE,
I had better come out of the shadows.....Well actually, I have a partly removable dash, and it is loosely based on... the Porsche Turbo.
Whilst hunting around for ideas, as you do, quite by chance I saw what I wanted ....

I then set to fabricating the dash front (with the swervy-bit) to house my SPA dash - loverly! Never done any fabrication before, so sourced all the fibreglass stuff, and was up to my elbows in sticky-prickly stuff for months!
This is just the start - to make the pod - later I put 'wings' on it to sweep around the top front of the dash, reduced the pod by a third....

After this I then set to making a full top covering plate for the dash up front to allow the 'pinching' of the leather between the main top and the dash front - a-la-PTurbo, complete with front slit vents....piccys soon.
After many changes, I am fairly pleased with the result - and I will post some later ones tomorrow. Hell of a lot of work, but I think worth it. ...and I also made a centre console... piccys soon! Can't believe I was capable of doing it! Amazing what you can accomplish when you try!

Was thinking if there becomes a APP for the IPad that would be a great data logger and aux Dash unit...
Now that's a smart idea! Could also control music, playback from track camera's (even editting and uploading of track videos if you get the new iPad with sim card), reverse camera screen, Sat Nav, Posting on Pistonheads from trackside "help my wiper has fallen off" etc..You've got me thinking now! Which is always dangerous for my bank balance.
Editted to Add More Features it Could Control

...I actually realy like what luckyP did to his.
Aww..shucks...
Brief was a simple, ergonomic layout (limited eye movement to speedo and revs). Stalks (of course) and an aesthetic balance of the factory mini dials and savage switches. Carbon, black and grahite and chrome accents.

Anyone doing their own simple dash, this Bright 6 unit is fab:
