Sad news, as I got into my car at the station this evening there was that horrible crunch that can only mean one thing, I've sat on my bloody sunglasses again. As the last two pairs were presents from my children, I haven't had to buy a pair of sunglasses for years, and have slightly lost track of where and what. So, any pointers as to what's good, and where can I get them from?

I don't like 'wire' frames very much, and I don't like 'F1' sports sunglasses at all, budget not really a major problem, but lets not go crazy.

Raybans. I have a drawer full and couple of pairs have been round the world, totally abused over a period of years and are still in fairly good condition. Lot's of different styles to suit your face too. (I typically have a slight wrap on the frame/lense as it suit my features)

A good optician should have a decent selection, so best to pop in so you can try them on yourslef.

Persol makes good sunglasses. Their acetate frame models are quite stylish. Try the 2720s with polarized lenses. You can get them in the US for about $180...

OP said no wireframes. I too would have suggested Serengeti. If you want to go Serengeti and no wireframes you could go TRENTO...

...I just don't like the Trento's though as they appear too "boy racer" for me...

cool

Oakley are my choice but I do lots of running/cycling/climbing so the sporty ones fit my requirements perfectly.

I do like the Persol selection. Anybody got any experience of Maui Jim?

If you don't like wire frames then Oakley are definitely the way to go.

Maui Jims, the best there are.

We usually have 2 or 3 sunglasses threads every year and they invariably come down to basically 4 sets of supporters:

Oakleys
Bans
Ghettis
Maui Jims

I always go for Jims, I think they are brilliant.

Another vote for Serengeti's, bought a pair in Australia and they are superb, piss over pretty much everything else, especially for driving. i have the Meastrales, which are a sports type, but they do some gorgeous aiviator and thick framed ones smile

I have and I wouldn't touch her with yours.

Wouldn't say no to that Miley Cyrus mind.

Try Revo.

I bought a pair a couple of years ago, by far the best made I have had

Oakleys...smile

I initially went for the Aviators..

...but I felt they were 'trying a bit too hard' as such now reverted to a bit more retro style with the Wayfarers.

I started a thread a while ago in GG that had plenty of suggestions, I'll have a search for it.

I've got Serengeti Granadas - but they're too 'wire frame' I guess for you. The lenses are great though, and a much nicer fit than my Oakleys.

I've had a threesome with both of them. (Hannah & Miley that is not Evangelion & Rufus)

I do like a nice pair of Aviators but they are becoming very popular these days and therefore losing their appeal to me.

On another note, why do sunglasses cost so much? Is it all design costs? Surely the materials don't amount to anything like the retail price.
