Hi
This message is to the Porsche (black in colour) driver who decided to avoid me, a cyclist, at one of the traffic islands in cults tonight. you are a dangerous driver and an idiot. To explain, he decided to go around the island onto the wrong side of the road and almost hit a lady pulling out of a junction to go left. You almost hit a woman who had done no wrong, she even had 2 children in the back of the car. I really hope the 10 seconds you saved by driving round me and almost causing an accident was worth it. Did your wife have your tea nice and warm for you when you got home? how would you feel if she was not there due to a dangerous driver?? You have no excuses, you were on the wrong side of the road. Your impatience almost cost the life of an innocent woman and her 2 children.

I hope you rethink how you drive and have consideration for others. Infact you should consider taking the bus or other transport as you are quite simply a danger to other road users. i would rather you hit me than that other car, as then you might only have one life on your conscience, and there is no way you were only foing 30 mph.

I forgot to mention the woman had to pull over as she was in tears from this near miss. this all happen around 20:30pm

Happens all the time to me - I cycle to/from work daily. Traffic islands in the middle of the road are incredibly dangerous for cyclists as you ALWAYS get some idiot trying to squeeze past you. I've been hit twice by wing mirrors (once by a van, once by a car) in the past 2 days - just a bad couple of days, but on average I have a couple of incidents like this every month. Both incidents were recorded on a micro videocamera I wear on my helmet, but the police say they can't do anything with the footage as unfortunately it wouldn't stand up as evidence. I'm still trying to find out if wearing a "Warning: CCTV" sign on my fluoro yellow rucsac changes things legally...

I presume it's the island nearer to Bieldside rather than the one beside the Cults hotel.

I've seen folk overtaking on the other side of the island when there is a bus stopped at the island beside the hotel. It's just plain stupid. It's not exactly the cleverest of things to match an island with a bus stop but surely you can wait until it's clear.

Unfortunately he's probably not the first to do it and won't be the last.

They have done this all over Aberdeen (and presumably other places) and I believe it's on purpose. Quite what point it serves I'm not sure..... Maybe to prevent people from overtaking a stationary bus??? Maybe it seemed like a good idea at the time.

It's a shame people can't be more patient behind the wheel.

I know it has been said before, but cars are weapons in the hands of idiots. I daily come across people breaking the law on my walk to work. People are so impatient.

The guy sounds like a *not very sensible person*. I just hope he gets his comeuppance before he hurts someone!

i have a bus stop like that right outside my house. cars and vans drive on the wrong side of the island to get past a bus at the bus stop all
the time.

The manner in which the Porsche driver done this manouver does sound a bit selfish but I do have to say that I have done this myself when been in a rush, not at the location named , but at similar islands. And I once or twice have been caught short ! Don't get me wrong I didn't exactly feel brilliant after it , more of a tt!! Lol
but we all make mistakes !!

Not defending him (& no I don't drive a Black Porsche!) but remember that's why you need to look both ways when pulling out of junctions as it could have been a Police Car or Fire Engine etc on an emergency call carrying out the maneuver. Just because you going the way of the lane that your going into doesn't mean its clear however if it was on a blind section then thats different.

Very true, on both of the above points. a bit more care from both drivers would have been good. and easty-5, you are getting a kicking.

The whole idea is to STOP people overtaking buses as it's illegal to go round these islands the wrong way - hence the blue/white arrow signage. I think you can get 3 points for that stunt.

I also agree with that too. they are a safety feature. you dont come to some traffic lights that are already red and just go through them or drive the wrong way around a round-a-bout to save time instead of going all the way around.
