Hi
Complete novice here
Somehow when I purchased my laptop I was able eventually to get the router and laptop to connect wirelessly
Well now I have bought a netbook and need to conect that to the network. It is asking for a WEP number
Does anyone know if this is recorded on the laptop anywhere and how I can find it without disabling the wireless network, as it was such a pain to get it working in the first place
Any help gratefully received
Thanks

The WEP key is usually printed on a label on the router.

If you go to http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 do you get a webpage. And if you do do you know the username / password to log on?

I'd imagine WEP wasn't set up by default; you'll have had to create one.

On the (hopefully working) laptop, go into the routers admin pages, normally at http://192.168.0.1 and check the settings.

So not the one supplied by your broadband supplier.

The way to get it would be to log into your router by typing http://192.168.0.1 into the URL window of Internet Explorer or whatever browser you use. You would of course need the router username and password. If it hasn't been changed it's usually

Username - Admin
Password - password (or 1234)

Then when the router page opens go to the Wireless section and look at the password section.

Use the Ip address on the bottom.
Use the password and username off the bottom
Click on wireless settings, and you should be able to see what you WEP key is.
