Just got off the phone from my Dad and he has been telling me about a car he has seen on their website, a Volvo V70.

I was just wondering if any of the Pistonhead collective had any experience of this company? I am just naturally wary of companies like this, and this one seems reluctant to let you view the cars although I know their is no way he will buy one without viewing. This will be his retirement car, so it needs to be a good choice!

Cheers in advance for any replies!

Never used them but they have the best website of any car dealer.

I wouldn't have any problems using them if they had something I wanted.

Looks like a good site, over 40 photos per car is going that extra mile and the cars seem generally well priced. Are there similar dealers websites like this?

Never used them but heard very good things about them.

Why can't all used car websites be like that?

I nearly have a couple of times - as said, they do excellent photos and condition reports so there shouldn't be any surprises.

As far as I know the £100 deposit is refundable so he could reserve online or by phone, go and have a look and get his money back if it doesn't check out.

Got a couple of friend that work for them. (not sales)

as far as car supermarkets style dealers go they go the extra mile with regard to prep of vehicles, and this is reflected in their website.

I've never heard of any complaintsd about them.

Different market, but surely http://www.eclecticcars.co.uk is also in the running?

I like how painfully honest Autoquake are about the condition of their stock.

It's amazing how many 1 post wonders come on and absolutely slate them, I guess the competition need to do something to try and stop them.

It takes a lot of effort?
You have to be honest?

Two things that some car dealers go to lengths to avoid.

looking at some of the pics closely on many of the cars seem rather grubby to me? ie unwashed, marked wheels/interior

I bought a Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE with a full spec including leather, auto, rear diff lock for £14295.00 in July 2007.
I px a chrysler voyager ( not grand voyager). They gave me £2k more anybody else for my px, and the discovery was at least 3.5k cheaper than any other dealer. They day I went to pick it up the managment started to realise they had valued my voyager as a grand voyager 3 days before! I had already paid and got my reciept and of course i didnt hang around to have the controls for the stereo shown to me or how the towbar fitted.
They spent more time looking at my px than i did looking at my new car as well. An to top it all I sold the discovery last year on %bay for £16700 last year.
They are customer focused for sure but they employ non car trade staff and the suffered from it on that day. I used to work in the motor trade in both new and used car sales and always remember a wise old sales manager telling me that "the secret to selling cars was in the buying".

Autoquake.com? I have nothing but praise for them!!

Yes, Yes but you have just joined up and have only 3 posts so unfortunately you can't be trusted!

Member of any other forums longterm with same username etc? As if not then, like the moneysavingexpert newbie posts, chances are you work for them.

I went to look at a car once. It's in the middle of an industrial wasteland in Birmingham with water tight security. They wouldn't let me enter to look at the car unless I phoned and aid a £100 deposit.

That was £100 just to look!

My dad used them about a year or two ago. He got a nearly new, new shape Mondeo for half it's showroom price and was happy with the service. Condition report showed the car to be as new and the actual condition of the car matched this too. The deal was unbeatable and it was the cheapest new shape Mondeo with that mileage we could find anywhere. He paid his deposit and went up to Birmingham by train from Kent and drove back down same day.
