ANY THOUGHTS ON A 20TH BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR THE GRIFF

Its been nearly 20 yrs since the first griffs came off the production line, do we have a gathering outside the factory ????

You've gotten mine in a right huff now. Probably won't start for a week now.
It may look older as it's had a hard life but it's only 18 and a bit and is not happy being told it's older than it is.

The car was first shown in 1990 but if you're looking to celebrate the first production cars you've a couple of years to wait as the first dealer cars weren't delivered till 1992.

I might be wrong on the '92 bit but I got that from Roger Shackleton's book so assumed it was correct, I always thought there where some '91 cars.

The factory car cannot have been registed in '89 as they hadn't even designed it then..... The first car was destroyed as it was on a non jigged chassis and wasn't type approved, that was built after the 1990 motorshow.

I talked to Doug Ellwood (of DG TVR) about this recently. Doug ordered a car off the motorshow stand at the NEC in 1990 and it didn't arrive until mid '92 (September IIRC). Doug said that he didn't believe any cars were delivered before 1992 (my own car was registered in March '92). J plates ran from August '91 until August 92 and there are certainly no H plate griffiths so none delivered before 1/8/91 but doesanyone have once delivered in the final months of 91?

Surely there must have been a few cars about prior to the first ones delivered to owners. Motorshows/Test cars etc

That's my understanding and then the production chassis took in the experience of the Tuscan racers.

Here is the development car dave mac bought, it was the photo shoot one for the early griff brochure......


It was in a right state when i first saw it, holes drilled everywhere and by then it had a 5.0 litre in it and a few strange features, dave then wrote to the factory and they took it back, and developed the ltd edition last 100 'LE' SPECIALS nummber 00.
