Right guys and girls,

I am in the very lucky position that my constant banging on about cars is finally rubbing off on the OH and she has expressed her enthusiasm to do a rally course/experience thing.

We live in Devon so I realise we will need to travel. I would imagine that somewhere in Wales would be best (and we can combine the trip with some blasting around the good roads up there and a weekend away), but her parents live in Norfolk so if there was somewhere up that way, we could combine it with a visit to the out-laws.

I have had a look at some websites, but am really looking for personal recommendations.

Is it worth trying to get a 1 on 1 experience day, or are the "part of a group" days ok? Obviously there is a significant jump in cost for 1 on 1.

Thanks!

There are several around just depends how far you want to travel and what you want to drive.
There are good ones over in Wales.
Also depends on if you want to do 4 wheel, rear or front wheel drive, forrest or tarmac / gravel.

Suggest you Google "Rally Schools / Experience" and take your choice.
Good luck and enjoy cool

I went to this one before the Higgins bought it and it was superb - real forest experience not just an airfield with some cones.

Yep - I did that one too. Excellent value for money; a "real" rally experience rather than driving a rally car around some contrived obstacles.

I went there 2 weeks ago. There where about 12 of us on the full day course between two cars. Sadly the RS2000 was out of action because some tt went from 4th the 1st gear and the engine shat itself. So we where in the FWD mitsubishis. David was in one car with wide seats for fat people, I was in the other car with Graham for skinny people.

This wasn't an issue. It was great, David and Graham where both very calm and patient and imporantly helpful with tips. I thought the cars where plenty fast enough. I got to drive the car 5 or 6 times and was tired by the end of the day. It is a proper graded gravel road in Welsh Wales and it was the most beautiful silent place, the brilliant weather helped. as did having no mobile signal 1,500ft up.

I learnt how to do handbrake turns, I'd never done those before. Its mega.

At the end of the day the passenger run just highlights the difference between capable drivers (us) and superhuman-where the fk does he find the grip-you can't take this corner that fast human (them).

The best bit for me was during my second run round the course my instructor Graham said to me in his welsh accent "3 right tightens, don't cut" that made me feel like a proper rally driver.

£300 for the day, plus travel and hotel. But well worth it and I will go again.

Now for the amazing pictures of me being an amazing driver.
