From what's been said it only Michelin have the facilities to supply F1.

However if Bridgestone are looking at "leasing" their staff and facilities to Avon in the short term then it would be great to see Avon on the sidewall of a F1 car

Don't agree. Don't forget that it was Cooper who were supplying A1GP.

I would love to see Avon in F1, they have supported British F3 for many years and personally i have never found fault with their road tyres when i used to fit them to the Golf.

Doubt it will depend on this as i think Cooper/Avon have the moulds they would need for F1 tyres already.

That said i hope that they do move to 18" wheels myself.

Avon supplied the old F3000 tyres. FPA used the same tyres when I last worked there, I think Avon are supplying the F2 grid with tyres too.

They have the capability to do it, I would be surprised if Kumho didn't have a go too. They were sending out press releases not long ago complaining about the amount of lower formulae they supply tyres for, yet get no recognition.

I think the F1 designers want to stay with 13" as it keeps the suspension design they have now. 18" will require a total re-work of the suspension. It's Michelin that want 18's. I read somewhere that Michelin were also out of favour after the US GP fk-up a few years ago.

I would love to see Avon in F1. What I don't understand is why Bridgestone want to leave, F1 is the best promotion a tyre company can have, isn't it?

It maybe because a tyre company can only get so much coverage from a monopoly position within F1 and Bridgestone have been at the top for a few years. Berniw and his backers also want to increase the costs as a supplier and Bridgestone are just not interested. A decent sponsorship campaign is usually between five and eight years unless a Rights Holder is very lucky or a reasonable deal can be struck.

I can see why Michelin want other companies. It's about cost and reputation. It's all very well crowing about how your tyres took jenson button to the F1 world championships but when you're the sole supplier it's different! If other companies are supplying Michelin have to supply less and they'll be pretty convinced on getting a head start on the others thanks to their past history, giving them a much easier ride. They also want competition because it drives development forward. Together with the change to tyres more akin to road car tyres will help development. What starts on the racetrack evetually moves to the road car.
