Ambleside - Eating Out.
Discussion
Off to the Lakes this Friday for an annual lads get together with my old school mates.
We are staying in a mates log cabin thingy in Troutbeck and are looking to go into Ambleside on sat night. We are going to the Queen's Hotel in Troutbeck on the fri night which looks fantastic on the website.
Its a long time since I have been up there so not sure what the decent places are to eat. Don't mind a restaurant or good pub. One of my mates comes armed with his Good Pub/CAMRA guide but there's nothing like some actual experiences.

There are some nice places like The Samling - http://www.thesamlinghotel.co.uk/default.asp but it sounds like you're after somewhere informal nearer the centre of town. The Glasshouse - http://www.theglasshouserestaurant.co.uk/ isn't bad - reasonable food and a good selection of local beers.

If one of you can be conviced to be a desi then I can heartily recommend the Mason's Arms up at Strawberry Bank ( linky) good food, pretty location, not break-the-bank prices.
That looks very nice. One of the guys sometimes drives, he's not too bothered about drinking but the remaining 3 of us like our nice beer too much.

Drunken Duck.
Went there last year for lunch, the food, building and setting is fantastic but it was expensive and packed. Also some of the clientelle were w

I wasn't there, by the way.

Its a shame because they have done a great job with it and it brews its own beer as well.
Might nip in for a beer after our walk on Saturday.

Lucy's is the "famous" Ambleside restaurant (google it) and they have a number of locations - a restaurant, a tapas type place, a deli... Food generally good but you need to book.
seconded. well worth a visit.I went to the following and everything was fantastic:
The glass house - slightly upper market, great food.
zeffirellis - Vegaterian, but good pizza (has a small cinema and live jazz)
Mortal Man, Troutbeck Bridge - Fantastic country pub
Stay away from:
Luigi's Restaurant
Spice Of Bengal - Not the best curry
There is a book called "great walks, great pub" or something like that, had some great walks albeit hard to follow from the book, but the pubs were all great too.
