I'm starting to cycle to work this week. probably starting on Friday. The 'cycle shed' are seems pretty good and the area seems OK.

I'll carry a typical light halfords lock with me but wouldn't mind leaving some form of heavier duty chain / lock / cable attached to the racks so I don't have to carry it with me every day.

Any suggestions?

For a u-lock Krypton New York Fuggetaboudit. Chain Almax with a Squires padlock. About £300 for that lot though so depends what value your bike is.

That said, as a bare minimum make it more secure than the other bikes there.

Vast majority of bike security is crap and easily cut/broken/removed with basic and cheap tools.

Abus also do a good range of locks that fall between the cheapo 8mm cable lock, and the perhaps overkill of a fahgeddaboutit or similar.

If your just going to leave the lock at work, then you could also get down to Hein Gericke or similar and get a motorbike lock, which will no doubt be cheaper.

The key is - as said - make your bike less desireable to theives than the ones its parked next to.
