Folks,

The Mrs is considering purchasing either a brand new 2010 Fiesta, or trying to get one up to 6 months old. The model we are considering is a 5-door 1.4 Auto Titanium (in white preferably) and we would welcome any opinions on what the new Fiesta is like to live with from people who own one.

I did post this over on the Ford section on Sunday but as yet no replies so mods - please leave this in GG!

Got to be a 5 door as we have a two year old and got to be Auto as the lazy Mrs won't drive a manual. I also enjoy the auto box on her current car when I drive it at the weekends too!

Any common faults starting to show up, any horror stories, any advice on the options that are a must have?

Can't help with the specs I'm afraid but I've had a rented one (1.25 base model) from Germany for the last 10 days or so and driven it back here from Munich. It's hardly the most appropriate car for major road trips but it's very comfortable and rides well. The cabin though is quite horrid esp. in base trim and prvious Fiestas used to be fun to drive but not this one. I suspect the winter tyres have a hand in this but it really is dull.

I had a 1.4 Titanium 5dr from Ford as a demo for 10 days and it was a good little car.

The 1.4 Manual is an older engine from Ford but it pulled well for what it was, looked good in and out, although the interior materials arent hugely inspiring but it is only a fiesta!

Good space in the front and rear, had 4 adults from Norwich to cardiff and back for a weekend with no issues at all. The boot isnt massive, but if your not planning to use it to roadtrip across europe you should be ok.

It is worth test driving one to make sure you like the dash layout/materials etc but all in all i covered 1500miles in 10days and it never missed a beat. The car had 3000 miles on clock when i got it and didnt have any rattles or squeaks throughout the whole time, although road noise on motorways is a little irritating.

My BiL has a 1.25 Zetec 3dr that is now coming up to two years old with 25k on the clock and apart from servicing it hasnt been near the Ford garage and is running as new.

If you want an idea on discounts, drop me a PM as i have a few dealers i know where i can access some good levels of saving for you..!

Thanks for the info folks. The Mrs is looking to trade her 307 in, and we'd prefer to deal with a local Ford dealer if possible but i'll bear you in mind iggletiggle if we do decide to go ahead!

I think you would do better to either get a:

Seat Ibiza 1.6 DSG (100bhp)
or
VW Polo 1.4 DSG (83bhp)

The DSG box is 10x better, plus interior of both those cars would better put together.

Had one for a day or two as a courtesy car, base spec diesel. Nice car to drive, handled pretty well, suprising how big a Fiesta actually is now though. Wasn't far off the room I used to have in my old Focus.

Centre console has a bit too much cheap plastic for my liking, but this one had beige interior so may not look as bad in a different colour. Overall I was impressed by it.

I just did a 800 mile Spanish road trip in a rented one, I thought it was great, nice and big inside and ultra easy to drive.

Feels substantial enough without feeling too heavy IYKWIM?

Massive step up from the old car and it looks good!!

when i was looking at getting my first car, i looked at the fiesta style+ and googled in for the reviews. A few horror stories on there so might be worth you and your lady having a read through them. The stories put me off as most of them were complaining about the boot not locking properly without having to slam it down a few times before the senor went away for it, and also a couple people complained about the power assisted steering failing while they were on round-a-bouts. I know these are just a few of the buyers, but it was enough to put me off. Just thought id pass this on to you. Good luck with the car hunt

Previous model Fiesta has more room inside and better seats.
The electrically-assisted steering is ste - previous model felt better.
Previous model has better rear visibility.

I don't like the new one, no sir.

Disclaimer: I own the previous model, had a new Fiesta (well, two in fact) over a month whilst mine was being repaired.

They have rubbish rear visibility and have huge blind spots the size of other cars, at least thats what the muppet who reversed straight into me said.

They are if you pay full list price, even Ford agree. If you buy one from a main dealer without haggling, you get all you deserve!

What kind of discount can we expect? Using the online configurator thing it comes out at about £16.5K (with a couple of options ticked).

I quite like them, to be honest. Look much nicer than the van-a-like previous model and the base model I drove was decent enough. A good friend of mine has one and, despite his best efforts at ham-fisted, dodgy driving, it's not done a thing wrong.

My Mum has a 1.4 Zetec, about one year old and something like 5000 miles if I recall correctly.

It isn't all that powerful to be honest but I guess it would depend what you normally drive. The handling however is pretty good for what it is, the suspension feels firm enough without being harsh. You can throw it into bends and generally chuck it about and it just goes where you want without protest.

The interior isn't bad I don't think, the look they've gone for is a little space age maybe but not unpleasant. The seats are firm but comfy and plenty of room for my 6'2. No rattles or squeaks as yet but its low mileage obviously.

Great on fuel, not worked exact mpg out but seems to get loads of miles for not a lot of fuel.

Having driven comparable rivals when she was looking round, if I was in the market for a car in this category I'd happily have one although I'd probably go for a bigger engine. Depends what kind of driver she is and what sort of car she likes. As she wants an auto I'd guess she's not really looking for a drivers car as such so I would say it might be great for her.
