I had chips in newspaper t'other day.

It was in Yorkshire though, so I suspect that it's different up here.

i am what we call "in deep cover" in yorkshire and am conducting an anthropological study into them. I have not observed newsprint being used to serve chips but I am still doing preliminary studies of the species' eating habits.

Another one from Yorkshire here who loves chips in Newspaper. There is something enjoyable about having more and more reading material appear as you make your way through dinner.
