Struggling to find time to visit our proper butchers (45 minute car ride), I just wondered if anyone used/uses a good mail order butcher ?

I would prefer one that enables your own choice of order over a box scheme, but happy to check out any recommendations.

Parents use Donald Russell but Ive not tried them yet.

Find it hard to believe that the nearest independent (proper) butcher is so far from you. Unless you live in central London, surely there is someone closer?

Not that Im aware of.

Aylesbury has nothing, Hemel the same. The farm shop we use for eggs do a small amount of meat, but its not really geared up for freezer fare.

Our preferred butcher is in Thame, and it just takes time to go over and collect.

The very best black (& white) pudding you could ever buy. I believe michelin * resturants buy from them. I can also vouch for their Lamb and roast joints. Although it's a good bit away from you they do mail order and it may be worth a try. (I have absolutely no connection with this butcher apart from being a mail order (S Yorks) punter)

Charley Barley!

THE very best black pudding there is, without doubt.

I use Donald Russell as well - they're very good. They usually have special offers in Radio Times and various newspapers - and once you're a customer you get the offers through their mailshots. Ask your Mum and dad if they've had any good offers through recently.

I've used Donald Russell, Aubrey Allen and London Fine Foods. All have excellent produce but you do pay for it!

Recently, I've tried to order speciality meats though a local (5 miles away!) butcher and that can work out less expensive but less reliable.

As it happens, I'm soon going to order some meat and poultry from a great place in Northern Ireland, but the shipping is a real problem. If you could take a look at my thread here, maybe you'd like to give them a try!

I have had a few different boxes from the East London Steak Co recently ( http://www.eastlondonsteak.co.uk/ )

Convenient delivery times, good quality meat and at a good price.

I believe plans are afoot to include lamb on the menu shortly as well.

They get a thumbs up from me!
