Daylight Robbery
Discussion
Just got back from a lovely long weekend down in Devon..
As we were not far from J31 of the M5, rather than fill up in an off beat garage or supermarket I decided I'd get some fuel on the A30 or M5.
f
k me, what a silly thing to do. I pulled over in the BP garage near J31. I drove up to the pumps looking for 97ron or more, reversed back and fro at different pumps, got fed up and eventually reversed into the lay by opposite. I had to get out of the car and inspect each pump individually for the elusive 97ron.. Ah there it was 'Ultimate 97'. I quickly run back to the car reversed, and pulled up to the pump. Not thinking of the price for the 'Ultimate', the big sign outside the petrol station displayed the price for normal unleaded at £1.23 a litre..
I removed the petrol cap off, lifted the 'Ultimate' nozzle from the pump and inserted the tip into the tank. The pump counter reset and displayed '£1.349' a litre, yes, believe me '£1.349' a litre. I started to feel sick, and my hand trembled, by the time I calculated the price of a gallon.. £1.349 * 4.55 using my mental capacity obviously the .55 threw me I had put £30.00 of Ultimate in my car in about 15 seconds.
WTF I felt completely f
king robbed. Even better the CPU displayed the 'DTE 125 miles'.
Why do petrol stations expect consumers to pay an extra 50 odd pence a gallon more for 97 ron ?
and
When does the price of petrol per gallon / litre dictate what engine size or car you'll purchase next ?

i managed to pay 1.28 per litre for regular unleaded as i had to stop to top it up on a long journey, i only put £10 in to get me home to my lovely cheap 1.17 per litre!!! I think the tnner gave me 80 miles ish (not totally sure on that) and thats in a relatively econmical 1600cc! at crusing speed!

The price was shown on the pump, you didnt have to put it in, so why complain once you have?
Nobody to blaim but yourself.
Yes, I had to put in as was i was a stranger to the land and the DTE was showing 22 miles .. No fuel no go.. And I had no idea how far another garage was from that point.Nobody to blaim but yourself.
The price of fuel in the UK is totally ridiculous but demand is steady so it will only go one way. The price has now doubled in the past ten years. I hate fuelling up whenever I'm back.
I'll try not to be a total t
t and comment that I'm just doing my expenses and the receipt for the last time I put Super in my Porsche here in the UAE came to about 15 quid for a brimmed tank. Ooops, too late! It is cheaper than water here which is equally ridiculous.

Don't think it has doubled, maybe 30p a litre more now than it was ten years ago. UAE countries are incredibly wealthy though, not to mention that the average local non-arab probably is on a terribly low wage (think taxi driver) so to them it probably isn't cheap. We British, being well paid tend to find everything is cheaper abroad.I'll try not to be a total t

Why bother with 97 if all you're doing is cruising back home? Extended periods of WOT it may be of benefit, but just burning it on a motorway schelp seems a bit pointless.
I thought about putting 95 in but a memory came flooding back about what fuel type to use in the Z's handbook. The handbook stated something similar to this:
Always use Super unleaded blah, blah.. 95 ron should only be used in extreme cases mixed with 1/2 super. Knowing my luck, someting would of gone wrong..

Hitch, I'm onto something, can you post me some of that cheap petrol ? Use a jiffy bag, but tape it down well so it doesn't leak. What say you ?I'll try not to be a total t

That'd put them on what, 15 to 20k UK.

As for the taxi drivers, that seems like a lot of money considering how cheap I found the taxis to be in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. I suppose they get some generous tips at times but I certainly didn't see them making upwards of 4000 Dirhams a month.
