heard a trap go off. went to investigate expecting to find a dead un, only to see he'd just caught his tail in it and was dragging the trap across the room. he disappeared into a gap in the floorboards but the trap held and I dragged him out.

very cute thing, didn't want to kill it so he's now in mouse prison - an aquarium with sealed lid - with food, water, bedding and a hamster wheel.

anyone know where is best to release him and how far from the house? I'm nr the city centre so was thinking either the park in town or maybe nr some empty buildings by the river. that is if the stress doesn't kill him overnight, never seen a heartbeat so quick!

I've heard it said that you have to release them something ridiculous like over half a mile away to make sure they don't come back. Not sure how true that is... if I was a mouse I reckon I'd be after hiding in the first house I came to, not trekking for miles trying to rediscover the one I'd just been trapped in.

yeah I thought it was half a mile or something daft. I'll go round in circles for a bit to confuse him.

if it dies overnight, maybe I'll take it to maccy d's and have some fun smile

I read that it has to be a long way away or they will return but also that it is cruel to let them go as they will not survive, and the distress they feel as they die a slow death means euthanasia is the preferred option.

I couldn't do that so took the one I caught about a couple of hundred yards into a wooded area. I sleep well safe in the knowledge he met lots of mousey friends and had a loving family in his new home.

confused

OP put a snappy trap down to catch/kill mouse. Then when snappy trap didn't perform as expected OP cannot kill mouse.

Mouse = vermin = disease carrying (as well as urinating & stting everywhere.

Ones I catch from the cats just go to the bottom of the garden to be released.

I do this as well, but have to wonder how many of them die from shock, and whether it would be kinder to let the cats finish them off.

Just watch out that you don't get seen releasing it, as I'd assume it's illegal to release them in to the wild (it certainly is squirrels and other vermin)

Chances are the cats would keep them alive for as long as possible while they messed about with them. I love cats but they're evil fkers at times

We used to get them in the garage so i used the humane traps. I caught a few which the kids loved because they could release them into the field.

Forgot a couple of times and when I did remember I found a sticky mess frown

I did bring the trap in from the garage once to wash it and didnt realise it had a mouse in it. The little fker ran under the microwave, you wouldnt believe the spaces they can get into.

Managed to get him out in the end but the Mrs was crapping herself though, she hates them.
