Air con regas

Someone recommended a guy from Cool Cars i think , mobile based in the TV and he did a great job on my last cars but cant find his number , need my Evo checked any suggestions

I had mine done on Sat @ Kwik fit, £49 and if they can't gas it they wont charge you. I've heard lots of horror stories about them for other work but at that price for a regas you can't go wrong.

Can they clean the system I think mine has a smell in it...could be my feet...

yep, it says they clean it as part of the process.

No they dont clean it...only recharge the system..Just called

I need to find some where that does.

It is useful but there is no-one on there in my area and dont fancy a 60-70 mile round trip to use one of them , since i got the recommendation and more importantly the number of the last guy on here i hoped that person was still around and more organised than i am

PErsonally, I'd steer clear of Kwik Fit. Had 2 cars re-gassed by them (206 and a Volvo 850). Both worked fine for a couple of weeks, then nothing! Wish that a "proper" tech had done it and would have told me there were potential leaks. Waste of money. Just pop to your local auto factors and buy a can of DIY recharging gas - can't do any worse a job!

There's a guy off Amersham Road in Wycombe who did my air-con in a Fiesta a few years ago who charged me about £45, that included a re-gas & an illuminous dye . Howewver I for the life of me cannot remember his name.. doh! But he is very professional about it & told me about all the training he did regarding air-con etc....

I had my RX8 done by the stealers (company paid so price wasnt an issue). They changed the pollen filters too and they were filthy so probably worth doing at the same time.

Just don't give them your money to start with, saves time in the long run

I was at a tyre place in Fleet (not Kwik Fit, their quote for tyres was £200 more) some time back and watched them try to re-gas a Range Rover. The bloke managed to spray refrigerant all over his hand which judging from the hopping up and down and the way he was biting his lip to not swear in front of all the customers I am guessing was jolly painful! This can't have helped the later temperature measurement which involved holding his hand in front of the air vent whilst revving the engine. From my understanding there is an optimum level of gas in these systems, you are supposed to fill up until cooling gets worse then remove some back out again and this is all automated if you use the best kit. Watching them use a bottle of gas and a payer of correct filling level to the gods of aircon was an education.

Tyre shops are great at changing tyres, but for anything else you might as well be asking them to perform brain surgery

On the other hand, my wife had her car serviced by a local Alfa independent who I believe charge 50 quid for aircon service if it is part of a full service. Did a marvellous job, including a dye injection and inspected for leaks (none found) plus the funny smell has gone. All for a mere pound more than letting the Refrigerant Liberation Front monkeys at K.F. loose on the car.
