Flapper to hotwire, can you do it and go the Jag route ?
Discussion
Rev is right about the noise with sa flapper - had one on my 400 until I junked it for Motec. If you really are looking to spend that, I would consider Emerald or similar. You could get something for the old AFM and ECU to offset the cost, and you can build in the noise factor with these after market ECU's.

Your profile does not mention what car / engine you have ..
I don't think any of the 4 litre variants have any thing to gain from more air / fuel ..
Then again - if you have a 4.5 or above then there are benefits.
Hate to say it but the cheapest way to more power is to just install a bigger engine and off setthis cost by selling yours.

Hi,
390SE and 450SE.
I had sold the 450SE but then for various personal reasons and a trip to Thailand I could not get the sale sorted.
I was in thwe middle of a service and rather that sepnd money on existing setup i had some thoughts into upgrades, a, to service it and b, to smarten up the engine bay, C, performance improvments.
They both have flappers, and most of the performance options seems to be for hotwire injection setups.
The 390SE fuel pump runs all the time and was told on here that is may well be the afm, so i guess if i was spending monety on a refurb one or replacement i may as well spend it on upgrade / improvement.
Regards
Nick

Re the fuel pump running all the time - well yes they do when the engine is running but they should stop once primed before starting .. and that is controlled via the AFM set-up.
I don't believe there is much if any power difference flapper vs hotwire. Sure the hotwire in more economical and is a little bit more free flowing but I'd take a guess and say that is really only a factor approaching 280~300 bhp motors. There is an advantage going fully ingition mapable and going TPS and junking the AFM altogether - with solutions by Emerald, megasquirt and many others but those will cost at least £800 upwards.

Thanks, the Jag AFM is for a flapper system. ?
Why bother with messing with any AFM when you can get rid of it completly and go to a fully mappable fuel and wasted spark setup using your current hardware for under £700:http://www.extraefi.co.uk/RV8_Kits.html#edis
You could just do fuel only for around £400, I certainly wouldnt be messing with trying to convert a AFM to work with it when this wont give you what you want in the end, a mappable setup will,

Nick, does the car with the fuel pump that runs all the time have the Jag AFM, these have a diode across the fuel pump contacts which means that once the flap has been deflected, the pump runs until the ignition is shut off. If so you can just prise off the cover and unsolder the diode.390SE and 450SE.

If not a Jag AFM, someone may have just bodged the contacts together after a failure of the contacts, or the little arm that disconnects the contacts when the flap is fully home may be missing or misadjusted.
Easy fixes in any case.
