Whats it like?

staying up the road and wondering if worth a visit?

also - for any PHers in the area - are there decent driving roads nearby?

Used to live in Newtown, and now live a bit closer to the border – just up past Welshpool. There is not a great deal to do within the town itself, and it can get quite congested (for Wales) at times. There are some good driving roads over to the West on the way to Aberystwyth for instance, and if you have time it is worth a trip over there.

Where about are you staying?

Also, try the road to Knighton. That's a good one too.

or a st one, depending on what you want the road to achieve for you.
fun corners = good
trying to get somewhere in a reasonable time frame = bad

The Wagon does a very nice steak these days, yes. I'd recommend it. You'll have to book though. Couple of good curry houses in town as well, avoid the one by the roundabout on the Pool Rd like THE PLAGUE as it will take FOREVER to get served. Gulshan and the Shilam on Broad St are the nicest curries in town. The chinese restaurant on Severn St ain't half bad either.

I think I know some people on this thread coughhehe

The Wagon is out of town, so it's not your standard Dive, the people there are nice, the beer is good and although I have never eaten there I've heard good things about the food.

If your looking for places to eat try the Italian La Terrazza on Park street, it's probably the best place to eat I've been to in town for a long time.

Avoid the Shilam, used to be good but is pretty bad now.

There are some cracking roads down that way. I did a rally course nearby and had almost as much fun driving back to the hotel. Spent two miles following a royal mail van that was driven very well! Naff all to do round that way although I do agree that the girls were easy - if I remember correctly we met them in a place called the cock hotel (they were definately ladies before anyone starts!)

Newtown is just up the road from me.

Best road by far is the A483 to Crossgates. 20 miles of twisties on some very sorted tarmac. Very popular route for bikes.
The Crossgates cafe will have plenty of bikers there on weekends. After a cuppa head to the Elan Valley, make sure you stop at the dam for pics. Carry on to the coast (Aberystwth). Have an ice cream then head back to Newtown via Montgomery.

Enjoy!!

pm me if you fancy meeting up, we are usually on the bikes most weekends and be happy to show you around.
