This is confusing the hell out of me!

Once the car has been unlocked and you've sat in it, it will let out 2 or 3 beeps. There seems to be no obvious cause for these as it does it with or without the doors shut, with or without belts on and the wife has told me it's happened whilst she was driving along.
The car displays no warning lights or messages at all. Any idea what this is?!

Thanks John but no. It really is a totally random thing! I'll be driving it a lot at the weekend so will look for a pattern. I've just spoken to my local dealer and have asked them to look at it when it goes in on Monday.

Might be your trackstar,if you have one fitted, they can start beeping if they have to be re-aligned.

Is it the BMW Ding noise or another kind of beep?

Have you checked for check control messages via the idrive?

I'm assuming it's a BMW ding noise? I will have a look in the iDrive for any messages tonight. Do you know roughly where they will be?

tongue out I have!

No Check messages, no warning lights, no service items pending. I've found a few mentions of this being a software bug and being cured by iDrive updates. It's already booked in for Monday so I've asked them to look at this dinging too.

This happened to me when the pressure pad on the passenger seat was playing up. Beeped a couple of times due to the 'occupant' wearing no seat belt when there wasn't anyone in the seat.

That would give the light on the dashboard too though I'm assuming? I get no lights or messages at all.

Are your lights on Auto or Manual? Is it the same noise you get if you leave your lights on and turn off ignition?
I had a 7 that would think its lights were on and beep at me even if they were off. New switch fitted cured it.

Auto and switched to Auto at the moment too. I'm not sure what noise the car makes when the lights are on/ignition off, I'll set them to manually on tonight and try it. (It sounds like that sort of noise though.) Will suggest this to Coopers on Monday.

Tried the lights, it's a different noise. More a beep from the passenger side than a chime for the lights.

To update this: It's not a BMW noise. Looking like it has a tracker fitted so trying to establish which one now.

Possibly Navtrak ADR ? That required you to have a keycard with you when you drove the car, you or it would call the monitoring centre..

Spoke to a guy about this and he said it would only beep once the ignition is on. My car is doing it as soon as it's unlocked.

Just called them and it doesn't seem to be one of theirs. No record of it on their system.

Edit: Just called Tracker on the off chance and it does have one of their systems. However, they claim that the beeping isn't being made by their product! WTF!?

lol! maybe it has two tracking systems, BMW were clueless at the best of times what cars had what systems - if it changed hands quite early on maybe the second owner paid out to install one as well..

God knows!! I'm hoping the supplying dealer can track down the person they bought it from and ask them.
If they can't figure it out then I'll press them to pay for someone to do so instead!
