An ex UK Admiral is coming to my office this morning to discuss the impact of MMGW on border security, regional conflicts, etc. This is not about climate change but MMGW. I will let you all know how this goes. smile

This is he:

Without being pre-judgemental, I have read his report (sent a day earlier) and it appears to be a hodgepodge of panic crossed with science fiction much in the vein of Al Gore-ism. That equates to a moneymaking scheme being worked on MOD's time for a retirement gig. I will reserve judgement until he delivers.

Unless you have to spout some official line, just have a discussion as to why he think s it is happening, what he thinks is happening, and how does he thing it will affect him. Then just reasonably dismiss whatever crap he comes out with.

I am going to gage his positions then attempt to gently inject obvious questions; all while being diplomatic of course. smile

Can't open the link, but

1. Climate Change is a scam.
2. MMGW is a scam.
3. Politicians and various other hangers on are obviously out to make as much as possible from an issue which is as phoney as King Canute attempting to stop the tide coming in, essentially at public expense. Another Y2K bug yikes 'catastrophe'.
4. Ergo, this guy is a scammer.

It would be interesting to know what his angle is. Don't be impressed by the Admiral bit, even if it's genuine. Britain is swimming in Admirals, Generals and Air Vice Marshals all commanding small offices. Many of them shortly to get the chop I suspect. So you may get a lot more high ranking British military types round to see you.

Edited - As an aside, the trouble with training large numbers of military types for whom you then do not have sufficient good use is that they then go off round the world trying to stir up conflict for their own benefit. There is nothing wrong with drumming up business, but in their case the result is often death, mayhem and violent undemocratic regimes. If this cock is up to something like that he deserves anything he gets.

Was just trying to work out if my dad would have known him, my dad was on cardiff (he was rotating between york and cardiff one point, as cardiff was missing its MAA) during the first gulf war, but was on the books on york.

But it seems unlikely as Neil seems to have missed being on cardiff during its tour in the Gulf... (maybe not 100% sure of dates)

If I were you I'd tell him;

"That global warming is hokum, generated by an obsessed, indoctrinated majority. Moreover, it's a diversion from the real underlying truth that the next major war will start electronically, and potentially build into a nuclear crescendo.

No doubt global warming will feature on the way to that end, but that is because we will need to believe global warming in order to cope with the impending reality of what is happening, what will come, and what must be done.

You only have to look at the way in which electronic climate modelling has built a false consensus, to understand how electronics will manipulate our very understanding of the world around us, and the actors within it."

Conclude by suggesting that he encourage investment in things that he controls, rather than things that people are in control of on his behalf.

Ignoring the MM element if the climate is changing to a point that food production is impacted or sea levels do rise significantly then there will be an impact on border security as people will move to somewhere they can live without staving or drowning, and if this means crossing a border illegally then people will chance it.

Of course the MM element does seem overplayed.

Ask him how he plans to get around the engineering hurdles in capping all the worlds volcanoes, as clearly mother nature can crop up from time to time and give us a damn good slap, and remind us that our best combined global effort over a couple of centuries pales into insignificance when it comes to spoiling our environment. Ditto earthquakes, and ditto tsunamis. Tackling the natural phenomena and causes of climate change first is clearly more important than addressing any of the man made ones, as they don't kill so many, nor with such immediacy.

Ok, meeting over. The UK Admiral Morrisetti did not come. His message was that he was detained helping to organize RN ships in the transportation of stranded British citizens from Spain, etc. due to volcanic ash.
However, his ex U.S. Admiral cohort + crew (A military advisory think tank) carried the torch. Big discussion about how alternative energy can bolster national security, etc. Nothing in most of what was said would be argued by the PH massive. However, the MMGW came later and went on about instability in fragile parts of the world, forced migration, etc. The tying into MMGW was obviously to tap into the "latest thing" and, IMO, to ensure this group a paying consultancy gig down the road. There were things that both made sense and sent up the bull$hit flag. They took a bad turn when they uttered the phrase "carbon pricing". frown I will get back to it when I can. We have been dealing with a massive BP oil rig explosion in the Gulf for the last three days and it has worsened. I will be on that for a while yet; back soon I hope.

The first mission of any senior military commander is to seek as much funding for their division of the military as they can.
In order to do this, they have to "big up" as much as possible the country's exposure to outside threats.

In the 1930s, the US Navy would have been concerned about the Japanese.

In the post war period, they would have been concerned about Soviet international ambitions.

These days, no one nation poses a serious threat, so an imaginary threat has been invented instead.

In this case, I fear you are correct. This Admiral, however, is retired. He appears to be drumming up future private work.
