Classic insurance is one way. Get a Volvo 240 estate for example and you will be able to insure it as a classic. A Mercedes W124 TE Estate would also do.
Often dependant on it being garaged / limited mileage / not used for business use. Thanks for all the posts guys - really helpful!
It'll be very low mileage, about 1000. Not business use, just the sort of heavy and dirty work I don't want to do in my main car - skip runs etc.
I'll try speaking to another broker and seeing of they have an insurer who will mirror my current NCB.
Regarding classic insurance, I'm looking at cars between 95 and about 98.... Would anything past a certain age qualify for this sort of insurance, or does it need to be a particular type of car, like the Volvo mentioned?

Often dependant on it being garaged / limited mileage / not used for business use.I had the same issue. Age 23, Elise S160, value £15k = £1300 FC. Bought a Mk1 Golf GTi, value £1500, TPF&T insurance quote = £1500. Thats Direct Line for you, who wouldn't mirror my NCB despite them having a record of it on my other car.
More than happy to mirror my f**king 3points for speeding though, weren't they?
But classic policies are the future. I got the Golf covered for £200 in the end, although the only downside is you can't get business cover, so I couldn't use it for the occasional work run.
