I got my full driving license through the post today and it went to my parents address as thats what was on my provisional. My mum called me to tell me that it had arrived and the wrong address, and started moaning that I need to get it changed or the police would 'do' me if I ever goet stopped as it would not match my insurance docs at my address! Is this true?
I have been online and changed it anyway and called DVLA to make sure that it went through ok, and will be sending the card and counterpart back (cut on half of course) tommorrow. Done this to keep my mum off my case aswell

she's talking out her arse, as Mothers are prone to doing. Well done for humouring her though.I have been online and changed it anyway and called DVLA to make sure that it went through ok, and will be sending the card and counterpart back (cut on half of course) tommorrow. thing is i've lived away from home for nearly 2 years now, am a mum myself, and am still acting like I live with her
soon as i came off the phone from DVLA I went straight on the phone to my mum to ensure her that i'd done as she asked!! Makes for an easy life though!!

Not really a problem.
My driving licence is still registered to my mums in London even thought I havent lived there for 4 years. Never been a problem for me with police or insurance etc.
I'm sure there is a fine but if the police dont care then who is going to catch you?

It did get queried when he had producers but he just shrugged his shoulders, the person behind the desk shrugged back and they carried on..

Not in my case, i didnt actually get 'done' as the OP put it but last time I got stopped, they told me in no uncertain terms that I should go ahead and change it.My driving licence is still registered to my mums in London even thought I havent lived there for 4 years. my boyfriend got stopped bout a month ago for stopping at a red light but being just a teeny bit over the stop line (police must have had numbers to get up that night) and they didnt pick up on that his license was reg'd to his old address and his insurance to his mums! Now that im changing mine before i start he's following suit. It costs nothing to change the address on it anyway and will have your license back to you in under 10 working days. It says on the counterpart that you can be fined, but i've never heard of this actually happning. My uncles a sargent, but dont have his number to see if its true or not.
your Mum's an amateur compared to my Dad...years ago (about 1990) I had a 125 and hadn't taken my bike test yet so was on L plates. My rear plate had done one of its regular 'split across the screw holes and fall off' tricks and the old man pointed it out...
'ok, I'll go and get another one' says I.
'where from?'
'car spares in XXXXX XXXXXXXXX'.
'you can't, you don't have an L plate on the back'
'who's gonna notice, it's 3 miles, I'll go the back way?'
'you'll get pulled, they'll bring you back here in a Police car, in full view of the neighbours....and when they do, they'll see right here on the drive THE VERY CAR in which you got done for drink driving' (6 years before!!!!!)
'yeah yeah' *pulled lid on* 'f
k off' (quietly) what a nana!!!

k off' (quietly) what a nana!!!It is possible to be fined for having an out of date address on a license, however the statute of limitations is three years, so I've been safe for the last 14.
Having said that, I'm currently living in the Netherlands, makes far more sense to have the parents address on the license than my own house in the UK.

I looked into this as my licence is still registered to my parents address which I moved out of nearly three years ago. I don't think it really matters as long is the address is somewhere where you are contactable. I know several people who move around the country for work (construction workers on projects lasting several months at a time for example) or who are in rented accommodation who do a similar thing to avoid having to keep updting their licence.
The only reason why I could see the licence address being used would be to send you a speeding ticket. As long as it'll reach you through the address you've given then what's the problem? If it doesn't reach you then you'll soon find out when you get picked up on an ANPR check for unpaid fines or worse.

I've not changed the address from my parent's house. It's just too much hassle and I tend to move about quite a bit and don't like the thought of losing post.
The only potential problem I had was when I got stopped for riding my bike a little 'enthusiastically'. When the policeman asked where I was heading and I said home he then asked why I was heading in the wrong direction. He didn't take it any further mind.
