Insuring a van for a couple of days at 18

Need to go and pick a kayak up this weekend, and my granddads runabout van (Bedford Rascal'esque - can't remember the make/model) would be perfect as I don't have any roofbars for my car.
The van is insured for anyone over 25 to drive it, and the insurance company would not allow my granddad to add me to the policy for a brief period. My own policy on my car doesn't cover me for use on other cars thanks to my age and I can't find any tempcover style places that will insure under 21's.
Does anyone know how I could go about insuring it for my use for the weekend?
