A gearbox that will fit any of the newer Alfa Romeo V6 engines (preferably 3.2 gta engine, but money may well decide it) that is longitudinal rwd and manual?

Just out of curiosity at the moment... just to feed my imagination of what I might do when I have a job and some money next year! Have had a plan for a long time to make myself something a little special and unique! wink

Cheers for any help!

Unless you are after a front mid configuration and can adapt the transaxle setup from an Alfa 75 (which must be hard to find by now) I would imagine you are going to need adaptors somewhere. Unless you mean the very recent GM based (Holden block) engine in which case I don't know of anyone who has played with that.

I have seen pictures of a 7 style replica with V6 power, and pictures like this on one the AHM motorsports website:

http://www.ahmotorsports.co.uk/V6racer.htm

which show rear mid configuration so it can all be done. Might not be that easy or cheap though smile

Cheers for the help guys will pop over to alfa156 when the time comes to try and make something work, I was thinking it might be a little difficult as I couldn't really find anything useful. Was hoping there was some gearbox somewhere that I hadn't found.

Might have to go with some alternative 6 pot options if I get chance to bring my little plan to fruition.

Thanks again.

You need a gearbox from an Alfa 6 or Alfa 90 saloon - front mounted and a fit for the V6 I understand. Not easy to find I suspect - best of luck!

Thanks for that, will look into it. Budget is probbably going to be a problem when I come to look at doing it so other engine options are probably more likely.

Cheers again,

Ryan.

I'm pretty sure the 90 has a transaxle gearbox like the Alfetta before it and the 75 after it. I think the 6 does have a front mounted gearbox, but wasn't that an auto?

You may be right about the Alfa 90 being transaxle equipped but the alfa 6 is definitely a 5 speed manual front mounted box. I think I read somewhere that its a borg warner but I might have made that up.

The Alfa 6 gearbox will be like the proverbial hens' teeth....

Which I think will lead you to choosing the gearbox you want and getting a custom bellhousing made.

You might want to try searching on alfabb.com for V6 spider conversions - you might be able to find info about getting a bellhousing that will allow you to use the gearbox from Spiders and other Giulia Alfas.

There was a great thread I read a couple of years ago about an Irish guy who put a 3.0 V6 from an Alfa 75 into an E30 BMW. I think he used the BMW gearbox and made up his own bellhousing.

You should be able to do it with an adaptor plate. Maybe there's a BMW gearbox that will do the job?

Cheers for the help guys. I had thought about adaptor plates maybe being a possibility. I am sure it is possible... unfortunately if I get to do this anytime soon it is definitely going to be on a budget so was hoping someone would know of some common cheapish gearbox.

Alas, it seem my fears were correct. Will have to see what I can find for what price when I get to do my little project, but I guess I may have to plump for some cheaper and more common six cylinder options.

Cheers again guys, you may hear more from this yet... eventually.

Will be sure to do a build thread if and when.
