Service advise Please

Just bought a 2000 Tuscan it had a 12,000 mile service 24,04/09 ( at Neil Garner performance) it has only covered another 1500 miles since and was sorned in the winter does it require another service or just an oil change or neither the car runs perfectly. I cannot see what could have changed in 1500 miles/12 months apart from the condition of the oil

I had a similar situation when I bought mine last year, only did 600 miles since its last service. All I can say from my experience is that it's still worth getting it serviced as I had some jobs done that I didn't know needed doing ie, perished fuel pipe and even though I thought the engine was running sweet before the service when I picked it up it was running even better! I'm at the other end of the spectrum and cover about 15k a year in mine, all I've learned is they love being used and hate being sat up. I'd strongly recommend a service, either a 6k or an interim low mileage 'tweeny' service.

Speak to Dom at TVR Power, they're not far from you and he can offer 12K, 6K or a simple fluids and once over. I do about 3K a year in mine and after a 12K sergvice last year wil just be getting a once over interim this year

Im in a similar position, have done everything a 12k service requires myself this year, tappets done @ str8 six for my run in service. Geo done at power and new shocks, apart from that i have done the rest. Only things left to do would be diff and box oil, will get round to that at some point.
can set the engine myself too so im loathed to chuck another £800 at it when it probably isnt needed.

The only thing concerning me - do people get their tappets checked every year? There seems to be so many that suffer a jumped shim / snapped oil pump chain problem, is it not worth doing annually or is there no point?

I guess there is no realy answer to this apart from the simple 'if you want peace of mind, get it done'

edited to say - my car doesnt sit for very long between runs though, if its been sat for a while, i would at least get it checked over for perishing, corrosion, sticking etc.

Im getting my tappetts done every year. Having discussed it with David Batty at my last service he will keep a record of gaps and wear at the garage so peace of mind for how the engine is doing. All good so far!

Also if I ever went to sell.... (not likely) but if I did I would be more than happy to use this information to perspective buyers.

I'd certainly recommend getting it checked over. I had mine off the road for 6 weeks just before the winter, took it out for a run at the beginning of December and it jumped off the road. Turns out the tyres had gone rock solid and I might as well have been driving on ice. Get it checked, that way you know you're safe. Wish I'd done the same, although I wouldn't have made it to the garage anyway, it happened after 7 miles, the first time I went round a decent corner.

I'd get a 6k service done TBH as things can still perish. These cars love to be used far more than being sat around. I also get my vales done every service regardless of 6 or 12k.
