......a 1996 Saab 900 convertible for summer! 120000 miles with full history. Was this wise or am i going to live to regret it?

If it's in good shape then you got yourself a nice cruiser for the summer! I wouldn't try to "press on" in it though eek

Gave £1.3k for it. Very very clean, fully stamped up service book. The test drive was enough to confirm i won't be going anywhere fast in it!

Right, got it tucked up on the drive finally. Done about 20 miles in it not counting the (brief) test drive. Really is mint, is reporting 32mpg, is INCREDIBLY slow and has quite possibly the worst scuttle shake I've ever experienced from a convertible, to the extent that I've climbed all over and UNDER it looking for rot, there is none, a quick snoop through the online reviews indicates the scuttle shake is perfectly normal, maybe I'm just used to more 'focused' rag tops.

And yet still I find myself taken with it, the kids love it, it gets the right sort of attention and its comfortable, a good summer smoker. The central locking doesn't work, neither does the passenger mirror adjust or the CD auto changer, all small stuff and I'm sure a saturday afternoon of tinkering will fix all these.

My initial reservations have gone, money well spent, apart from the scuttle shake it drives like a new car, and tremendous if not very slow motion fun. Bit of an internet virgin but I'll get some pics up tomorrow if I can figure out how to do it without making a complete tt of myself!

Should have gone the whole hog and got a classic 900 cabrio. I always liked yellow.

To get a classic as clean as this I'd have had to spend 4 times as much. Its MINT, mint classics pull 6 grand now. I've had a few Saabs, always wanted a classic shape turbo, but good ones are rarer than hens teeth. This will do for now, she's sweet! Six months now of happy top down motoring!

ETA don't think they ever did the classic 900 in yellow!

The hatchback I'm not sure, but they definitely did the cabrio in yellow.

T16s convertible in talladega red is the one to get. Yellow ones not nearly as fast and everyone keeps looking at the forth skin in the banana...

of which I have one sitting on my drive. A bit shabby at the mo but awaiting a full restoration.

We had a 98 9-3 2.3 Cab and that too had some serious scuttle shake - and that was meant to be an improvement on the 900 - so I wouldn't worry too much. You sort of get used to it. Only noticed it more once the wife changed it for her CLK cab.
But who cares - the sun is out - polish it to hell and sell it for £2500 when the sun is out! smile

What is scuttle shake? Is it literally where the body of the car shakes round bends due to the car orginally being designed as a 'roofed' car?

My father's 90s 900 convertible was just about the worst car I've never driven.

Scuttle-Shake City!

BUT, I'd would own a Classic shaped 900 Convertible turbo in a heart beat.
