Keep an eye out for lily beetle on the leaves - they are red and look a bit like spotless ladybirds. Look under the leaves. If you see any kill them!

It's too late/early for some of the alternatives. I can see the lily resemblance but don't think they are strong enough looking - plus he said they weren't there last year, willowherb are great at colonizing new ground while lily are pretty crap.

A bit of digging and it seems that they are linked back to something - I'm pretty sure this isn't normal for lillies and I can't find the parent plant....

Deffo not Lilly - so Willowherb it is then as they spread underground and generally away from where they started. There is a white variety called Epilobium angustifolium Album which is commercially available as a garden perennial which is notorious for moving from the spot where it was first planted.
