New windscreen needed – use Auto glass or pay £50 extra?

I have been in touch with a recommended guy to fit my Tuscan windscreen but my insurance want an extra £50 excess if I do not use autoglass.

Should I cough up for a guy I know has done it before or trust Autoglass??

Anyone had good or bad experience of autoglass with TVR's?

Use the guy who knows what he is doing. After the complete hash that was made of my 'normal' BMW I wouldn't let anyone near my TVR unless they had done it before.

My local TVR dealer used Autoglass and the work was excellent, might be worth asking what there experience is.

Agree with above. If the guy at Autoglass has done a good number before then no reason not to use them. Tonbridge Autoglass did mine a couple of years ago and I was very impressed. They talked me through how they were going to do it and wanted the car for the whole day. They rejected 3 screens before the final fitting as they werent happy with them.

Obviously this will vary by branch so be careful as there are a number of horror stories on here!

I agree. Find out if they have experience and skill to take it on. If they sound hesitant, suck their teeth and scratch their heads then don't use them. If they sound like they will take it on as a regular car then don't use them. They need to explain their previous experiences of TVR screens.

Mine turned out to be a bit of a dogs dinner because I think the guy who should have done the job was busy and another guy did it. £275 for screen, £200 labour. I paid £70 of it. I'm trying to find someone who can finish it.

£50 extra will seem wasted if the job is good but you'll be happy. £50 saved will nag you every time you look at it if it doesn't look good.

Reading windscreens (in Caversham) have done a fair few and do a good job.
