For a variety of reasons, I'm looking, albeit a little reluctantly, to change my old SIII V8 Landie for something which will cope with long distances a little more comfortably (both me and the truck!). This will be very much a part-time vehicle, not the main transport, but I need something which I can do the distances in, put a bike in the back, put the dog in the back, tow with, and escape from home on the days it snows (ie 4WD). The Landie will do all those but it's not a great option if I want to go much more than 50 miles really.

So I'm leaning towards a Jap pickup - L200, Hilux, Navara, etc - but they seem to hold a lot of money for what they are. Starting price for anything half reasonable looking and less than 10 years old seems to be in the region of £3k, and all of those are well into 6 figure mileages. Am I looking in the wrong places, or is this what they fetch? Are there any obvious alternatives? The Ford Ranger seems to be pretty much the same.

Also, does anyone know what the CO2 emissions of these things are? All the usual reference sites seem to treat them as commercials and thus not list them.

Ford Ranger is a Mazda with Ford badges stuck on, so it falls under the same catagory as the rest of the Jap pickups.

It's a shame Vauxhall stopped rebadging the Isuzu KB...they were cheap and very cheerful once they got a few years on them.

The emissions are irrelevant really as they have a flat tax rate of £185 as it is a commercial vehicle.

Ah, thanks, didn't know that.

Still looking and still wincing at the prices!
