Does anyone known of any French/English insurers that will cover a French registered car to be insured by a English owner with a French property (and the car is based there permanently)

My parents are currently paying nearly £300 for the privilege on a little Renault 5 1.4, seems a bit much to me.

Any suggestions for alternative companies to obtain competing prices? Language isn't an issue and they are currently insured with a French company.

We have our Volvo over in France permanently, insured it through our local Axa office - grand total of about £147 a year - and that's for a 2.0 20 valve.

Okay - so not the best performing car in the world, but it's a lot of car for not a lot of insurance money.

I have heard rumours lately of comparison websites starting up in France, so may be worth a hunt around for one of those!

Thanks for the quick reply, sorry for the delay in coming back. We have been calling around (including our local Axa) and it seems my parents have bolted on all sorts of cover and hence the high price.

e.g. Fully Comp insurance but any driver can drive with permission of owner which comes to around 240 euros (150 euros for 2 driver on standard insurance), then there is zero excess for everything (windows/theft/fire, then they have bolted on another legal pack which provides legal assistance for home/car at around 70 euros (seems a lot, but apparently more comprehensive). Axa worked out about 20 euros cheaper for the same policy, but had excesses on most things.
