As per the title, the reason is a replacement gearbox identified at 1800 miles, replaced at 4k, now showing the same but worse symptons. Probably meaning another new box. Other issues which are new, door hinges rusty, and not opening properly, squeaky steering column/dash when driving slowly, loose fitment of pax side door casing meaning rattles when cold..

What are my chances?

What's the dealer said/done about it?

So to summarise, the problems to date are a failed gearbox that apparently wasn't fixed properly and a couple of squeaks and rattles?

Bought back older cars than that before. That was before everything went bandy last year though.

Er, then what is a warranty for then? There would be no need for a warranty if they just replaced the car if something went wrong.

If you were buying my car and the file said 3 gearboxes, would you buy it?

Warranties are great, but I am losing confidence in my A3.

Its unlikely but possible. I friend of mine had loads of issues with his new A3 over a period of a few years, Audi eventually said they would replace it with a slightly newer one.

Although, in the end he got an extended warrenty instead because audi were taking so long finding a similar car to replace his.

So get it fixed and sell it? I know it's an arse having cars go wrong and you don't expect it when you pay so much for them, but it does happen, and as BG said they put warranties in place for this exact reason. Assuming the parts that are fitted are warrantied, I wouldn't really be bothered by the gearboxes as long as it wasn't a common / intrinsic problem that everyone knows exists.
