280i/Rover SD1 Window Regulator
Discussion
I need a new left hand side window regulator mechanism for my '85 Series "1.5" 280i. It appears that the car may have been broken into early in its life (broken glass in the door and under the seats, bend ends on the regulator tracks, glued, rather than rubber-packed, glass to the metal track bit, ...), and whatever went on to attempt to repair this, it was done very poorly. The glass fit to the top and windshield frame is just WAY off, particularly at along the targa/top post, the metal track bit affixed to the window glass hits the side intrusion beam when lowering, the "static" channel bit affixed to the door is rusty (not as a result of the attempted repair, of course), and the leading portions of all the sliding channels are bent up. The passenger's/right side fits, looks, and works great. I'd like to get the driver's/left side working like this.
I understand that there are a few variants of the Rover SD1 front door window regulator. Does anyone know what these differences are, how do make a positive ID of the different types, how recognize one/type that TVR used, etc.
Also, on fitting the glass to it's guide channel, anyone done this? The original fitment was via a rubber packing. I've read where some folks just used a bicycle inner tube. As I mentioned, mine has been put together with glue, likely a windshield cement. It's rather brittle stuff, so I hold some hope that with some patience and care I'll be able to cleanly get the window glass and channel apart amicably. One of the issues I see with the glue is that it doesn't ensure the glass to fit centered in the channel, which can't help with the final alignment/fit of the glass to the aperature. Any tips, tricks, hints on getter everything together and fit right?
Rimmer Bros had that crazy "India" find of SD1 parts. Anyone happen to know what the inventory status of these bits is?
Thanks!

Thanks. So, Rimmer Bros. still has that "India" find SD1 parts cache? I remember visiting the site a while ago and seeing all the bits I might want. Visiting recently, I couldn't find the same stuff again. They also had tail lamp assemblies, and it would be nice to have a couple of this handy.
I'd like to get the scissors/regulator bit, the static bit that mounts on the door, and the bit that fits on the window glass with the rubber packing. I don't need the motor, I suppose. Shipping costs to the US are higher than the cost of the parts
And I didn't want to order anything unless I was sure it was the correct.
