Have a chance of a S reg ford focus 1.6 as a cheap shed.

So are they okay

What breaks

What kind of MPG

And can they take 185/65/R14 sized tyres as that is what my winter tyres are which are on VW golf rims after my golf had an slight overheating issue which involved flames

I ran a 1.6 (2000) Zetec for a fair while, got 40mpg(ish) out of it day in day out, cambelt was 10yrs or 100k, nothing broke as such but it did have what seems to be a common central locking problem which was solved for free using Google smile

Solid little car in my experience and fun down a back road - a touch gutless on the motorway though.

I'm currently running a 1.8 Zetec (again a 2000) - these are a little more spritely on the motorway and the last couple of tanks have seen me getting 37mpg and not really hanging around wink

Can't comment on tyres but I'm sure the one I've got at the moment is on 195s, so maybe 185s wouldn't be too much trouble to use.

Coil packs often go, but are an easy fix.

Timing belt is due at 100k/10 years but worth doing before because the tensioner has a habit of falling to bits.

Dunno about the tyres.

I had a T Reg 1.8 Zetec, no major issues. Wheel bearings and anti-roll bar link arms are common to fail.

I used to average about 36 MPG, didn't drive economically though!
