Anybody know anything about Genesis bikes?
Discussion
They are UK designed and built overseas, distributed and owned by Madison so they sort of cut out the middle man a bit. Madison also do shimano so they usually have a decent spec. They are pretty nice bikes for the money, plus if it needs any warranty work then Madison are quite a large company and most bike shops will have an account with them.
I used to have a Genesis Day 01 hybrid, which was pretty much faultless during the time I had it.
I wasnt a fan of the look of their mountain bikes before, but the 2010 models look really good, very different from most brands out there. I was very close to buying a Genesis Core a few weeks ago, but went for a Orange Crush instead.

Seems a little pricey for a steel HT compared to say this:

Which has a pretty good spec for the dosh.
You could get a full SLX Handjob for less cash too.

When it comes to spec you can't really argue with either of the above. Both really good quality bases to build from too. I would say the on-one would be an awesome fun bit of kit but as it's very close my bike that's no surprise! It's more of a competitor to the Genesis alpitude.

We've got them in at the shop and they're lovely, frames are really nicely finished and the spec is outstanding for the price.
You can compare to online retailers but a lot of cyclists use a local bike shop's repair and mechanic facilities for servicing which you may get a discount on if you buy locally.
Also give you somewhere to test the bike for fit instead of forum reviews which can be useful but not really specific for you.
