It's a common feature; be it by Post, Phone or Email - someone, somewhere - will always get your name wrong.

Without divulging my real name (I think the cops are close, so gotta be careful!)
I get this a lot.... an awful lot.

I learnt the phonetic alphabet before the normal alphabet. Time after time people will mispronounce, or misspell my name.

However, this latest one has had me in stitches all day.

Returning from lunch, I had to phone a user back.
It went a little like this.

  • ring ring* *ring ring* - Receptionist answers:
Me: Hi, can I speak to Phil please?
Receptionist: Sure, who's calling please?
Me: Mike, from IT.
Receptionist: Who?
Me: It's Mike from IT.
Receptionist: Dennis McMighty?

At this point I couldn't stop laughing. I was then put through to Phil as Dennis McMighty....

He was as perplexed as I.
Although saying it quick; I can see where this wonderful receptionist was coming from.

Anyways, thought I'd share it - and see if anyone can top it?

seriously... My expectations have just been trashed... Without giving away my full name i'd like to point out i just don't fkin care... I opened this thread expecting to hear tales of testosterone fueled forgetfulness... Like the night i spent with a stunning aussie bird in a hotel only to take her number at the station in the morning and put it in my phone under louise... Who's louise she says?... I mumbled... Well you looked like a louise to me... And i did call you that all night after all ffs!

No one can ever spell my surname correctly. Even if I try and spell it out over the phone, they get it wrong.

Had to arrange one of these 7 day free insurance deals used to collect a car last weekend, both my wife and I on the policy. They even manage to spell only my surname wrong on that but get her's right?!

LOL @ the OP. Dennis McMighty, genius.

Yes, we do surname and post codes in phonetics. Still get letters addressed to the wrong person and even the wrong post code though....

My name is really easy to both prounounce and spell, but various IT departments have got it wrong over the years and when they send through tthe e-mail (stranegly to the correct e-mail address which contains my full name) some of their interpretations are rather amusing.

I have been referred to as Nicola (I'm bloke), Mr Rottweiler (this had my PA in stitches) and ccensoredck (although maybe they meant this one laugh)
