Switching off TC?
Discussion
Morning,
I was just wondering how often people switched the tc off? I have had the car a while now and thought I had best leave it alone while the road conditions were poor.
When I attempt a reasonably quick roundabout or exit from a junction it seems very quick to step in and cut power.
I'm sure on a dry road it would be fine left off, and even in the wet for a bit of fun. Your thoughts? Also what psi do people recommend front and back.
Thanks,
Ed

I've found the same in my E39 M5. The DSC steps in very quickly even when going through the gears it will kick in now and again on a straight dry road in third! I have been experimenting with turning it off more and more recently. It just means you have to be a bit more circumspect with the right foot and be ready to deal with the odd sideways situation when it occurs. I am still getting used to the car after a month so DSC is definitely on in the wet!
On track the TC is a royal pain, but it's a leap of faith to run without it. I haven't made that leap fully I'm ashamed to admit. I've made it my mission to get "back to basics" however, and have made turning TC and DSC off as my daily start up proceedure. Obviously the car needs to be approached with an increased level of caution, however it feels much better to drive, requiring a greater level of driver input which rewards on equal measure
For general driving the DSC is left on as I'm not working hard enough to provoke it. But if it is wet or I'm making progress then sport mode on with DSC off and my right foot and the slippy diff can take care of buisiness.
I think that the DSC does cut in a bit early but that is down to the Health and Safty Nazis trying to prevent natural de-selection.

According to this thread ---> http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showthread.php?t=111... pressing the DSC off switch doesn't totally turn it off; hold the DSC off button for over 5 second to do this.
PS - there is lots of useful stuff at the link above for new and old E46 M3 owners alike.

DSC is such a nanny in the wet so my normal start up procedure is to turn it off when it's slippery because it's a bit sensitive (read irritating). I feel that the car handles so well that it's uncrashable, but the pics on the Quarry Motors website disproves that.
If I want to drive the car quickly I'll turn it off, but when I'm pootling or with the missus it gets left alone.
So I will continue to turn DSC off, but do so at your own risk.
You're missing out if you don't though.
