Guys, i have had to change from my triple plate setup to the 'normal' single plate arrangement.
I've bled the system and can see the release fork moving when under the car, but..... the clutch and engine are not disengaging.

Is there anything it could be apart from still got air in there somewhere?
Any adjustments, tricks etc?

Not sure which clutch arrangement you have but I'm guessing your bleed screw is low down on the slave cylinder which leaves an air pocket in the top of the cylinder.
Unbolt the cylinder and hold it so the bleed screw is the highest point during the bleed.
I use an easybleed which means I can do the job on my own. If you use one keep the pressure as low as you can (10-15psi) If you have it too high it makes the air bubbles smaller and more difficult to shift.

Did anyone tried the Tilton triple plate carbon clutch? It's like 9lbs. Just curious, how it feels in an Ultima?

Hi Clive

I had the Powertrain 7.25inch triple plate from Super Clutch in Southam. Had to change because of the change from SBC to LS2. The ring gear goes on the gearbox side of the clutch rather than the engine side. The G64 box that i have seems to have a slightly smaller bellhousing than the G50 and G96 boxes so the ring gear wouldnt actually fit in without fouling the box. We machined away as much as we think we could but still wasnt quite there.

So if anyone is interested in a triple plate with 500 miles use, drop me a line.

Got a Tilton triple plate carbon clutch in my GTR .
Set up is an AS 377 / 685hp with the G96-88 box.
Yeh , its supper light and strong , motor revs like a bike,
really responsive. Package has a bit of a chatter noise
but am assured that is because the heavier flywheel would
normally absorb any harmonics from the gearbox and this 7/lb
just cant. That's the reply from CFM Roger Brown .Here is a link
with more info. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s=ee82f8b...

My only concern with this package is the modulation being so short i.e.. on or
off , which I have now got used to , Definitly not a traffic clutch ,
more for the open road and definitly racing . At this point my main concern is
this package wont give me more than about 10 000km and that's with shimming
the plates twice , yes that means taking the box out to shim . Sooooo , yes
its a great package but not a fit and forget . Getting used to the modulation
probably did cause a bit more than normal wear and when in traffic don't sit with
your foot on the clutch waiting for the lights to change , put it in neutral and release as wear rate will increase.Luckily I was told this prior to installation,
we all do it from time to time just don't with this package.
So yeh 10 000km and the box has to come out so often , in my opinion only for track use not for road and traffic which I notice every time I get to the UK ,
the traffic on the roads is sick over there.

Hope that gives you something to think about.

Regards

I had quite some problems getting the clutch to work properly, finally ended up in my local garage using a professional bleeding system. Very difficult to get the last bit of air out of it......tried 3 times with the standard procedure and with poor results.

I had the triple 7.5inch tilton, but (as others have found) its either two black lines or a stall each time you take off. Great clutch but a pain on the road/traffic. I replaced with same set-up but twin plate rally plate version. - Perfect.

THANKS KYLE!

2 very slow clutch bleeds and some master cyl adjustment finally seems to have got it sorted.

what kind of master cyl adjustment did you do ? I have my car at a guy to get my registration and he reports that my clutch is not disengaging properlay again. I think my take cylinder is probably taking air because every time after bleeding all seems ok and then after a few days same problem again. We will now try a new cylinder and see if that finally deals with this sh....

hi spatz, cant remember which cylinder it was but we went a size bigger than factory to try and counter the hard clutch pedal these cars have, i'll check on size later, although .725 rings a bell, but i will check toight.

actually my MPC cylinder was not heavy at all but it seems it is not sealed. I had to use parts from an old cylinder for this uprated billet cylinder so maybe
the o-ring was not perfect anymore

Surely you need a smaller diameter master cylinder to give a lighter clutch (well that's what I did!)

Correct! I fitted a smaller one too!
