Ive got one light pod stuck in the up position.

Any ideas on what relays to check?

Its a 280i with black wiring and all the relays in the engine bay so its a real pain in the arse tracing wires!

Unlikely to be a relay, could be a popped fuse or a crusty connection.
Can you get underneath the nose and wind the pod down manually?

Hmmmmmmm

Just tried the manual winder on the bottom of the unit (hole disigned for pigmys) and its just turning with no movement on the pod.

Sod it.

I'm sure you know this but it does only turn one way i.e resistance in one direction only. It just "clicks" in the other direction

I tried it both ways for about a min and no movement.

Ill see if I can drag the other cars off the drive and get her out to start checking the wiring.

Here we go!

It wouldn't be the first stripped gear I've come across... but usually when they strip the pod falls under its own weight when the motor worm reaches the stripped portion - and it wouldn't stop the motor trying to work.

Interesting... scratchchin

One of mine stuck up last week so got it on a friend's ramp and it was just a bad connection.

Having said that as soon as we turned the knob it did drop down properly

A new couple of connectors and a bit of lubrication and they both work great - and in unison now as well

Just dragged out the light unit and have wound down the enit as far as I can,
Flicked the switch quickle on and off and the pod dropped fully, but then when I put the lights on and pods fully up it still stayed up when turned off!

Is there a limit switch in the pod motor?
how do they stop at the open point?

Yep. I suppose technically there are two, but it's the same switch with two contacts wink

Have a shufty on my webbie for some circuit diagrams etc...

removed the headlight and assembly and took the motor apart.

Its mint inside!

Im now thinking its the switch as I was playing around with the switch surrounds to sort out the illumination just before the fault.

Incidently, if you plug the motor into the headlight (same plug, only in a TVR) the motor goes round and round in the same direction!!!

And so it should; the motor doesn't reverse to lower the pod, it rotates the same way. That's why the limit switch has two 'stop' positions.

It's extremely unlikely to be the lights switch; if one pod works, the other should. I'd suspect the mutiple connectors to the pod have some corrosion.
